Thunderbolts’ Director Released Explosion-Filled Phone Footage From The Making Of The Movie, And Yes, I Am Even More Hyped Now

Even as Marvel Cinatic Universe enthusiasts eagerly anticipate upcoming flicks such as the Fantastic Four and the reappearance of Earth’s Supreme Team in “Avengers: Doomsday,” it’s worth noting that a different team is gearing up to enter the scene – the Thunderbolts. This new squad, comprised of Marvel’s discarded anti-heroes, appears to be a grittier, more unrefined group of heroes. However, based on what I’ve observed, the movie promises to become increasingly intriguing.

The cast of Thunderbolts* is already strong, with Florence Hugh and Sebastian Stan leading a team of Marvel’s anti-heroes. As with any superhero movie, we can expect lots of amazing digital effects to make the impossible come to life, but what’s exciting about this film is just how much of it was shot practically. Video footage shot on an iPhone by director Jake Schreier and posted to Instagram shows that a lot of the stunts and action were done in camera.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve got to say, it wasn’t just Florence Pugh leaping off the world’s second-highest structure for Thunderbolts that left me in awe; this footage uncovers the fact that a significant chunk of the action – from cars somersaulting, furniture hurling, and vehicles getting squashed by chunks of concrete – was as genuine as it gets.

As someone who appreciates practical effects, I’m even more excited to catch the Thunderbolts movie this weekend! The scenes shown here might have been created digitally for convenience, but they wouldn’t have looked as stunning as they do now.

In many instances, digital effects are remarkably lifelike, indispensable for tasks that cannot be accomplished otherwise. Yet, nothing surpasses the authenticity of real-life scenarios. Staging practical stunts requires careful planning and resources, but the end product often justifies the investment of time and money. It significantly enhances the film’s quality.

In superhero movies, CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) becomes essential and prevalent due to their genre. For instance, in the film Thunderbolts, there’s Ghost, a character capable of vanishing and reappearing at will, which requires computer assistance for visualization. However, the rest of the team doesn’t possess magical or sci-fi abilities; they are primarily ordinary individuals. To maintain an air of realism in the action sequences, it’s best to portray their exploits as authentically as possible.

Given that the cast of Thunderbolts has been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s clear that the events of this film are likely to be significant within the broader narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This could potentially boost its box office success, but regardless of its commercial performance, it’s undeniable that it will look visually stunning.
