Thrilling Escape from Kabul: ’13 Days, 13 Nights’ Teaser Unveiled by ‘Monte Cristo’ Producers

As a cinephile, I had the privilege of catching a sneak peek at “13 Days, 13 Nights,” an exhilarating thriller masterfully crafted by Martin Bourboulon, under the production banner of Dimitri Rassam’s Paris-based company Chapter 2 and Pathé – the team behind “The Count of Monte Cristo.” This riveting film is set against the tumultuous backdrop of the fall of Kabul and the subsequent takeover by the Taliban.

The film serves as a sequel to Bourboulon’s dual-installment action series “The Three Musketeers,” which were both manufactured by Chapter 2 and Pathé and achieved significant success at the French box office, along with being distributed in numerous international markets.

According to the captivating book “13 Days, 13 Nights in Kabul’s Hell” by commander Mohamed Bida, who coordinated the evacuation of the French Embassy and the local population escaping the emerging extremist government, the movie was scripted by Alexandre Smia. The adaptation and dialogue for this film were co-written by Bourboulon. Chapter 2 Productions, a company under Mediawan, is producing this film in collaboration with Pathé. Pathé is also handling international sales of the movie and plans to distribute it in French cinemas.

Established on August 15, 2021 in Kabul, this movie portrays US soldiers as they are making preparations to leave Afghanistan, with the Taliban closing in on the capital to take control. Commander Mohamed Bida and his team are responsible for maintaining security at the French embassy, the last Western mission still operating. Stranded with around 500 people, with no assistance, the group, aided by Eva – a young French-Afghan humanitarian – must make it to the airport at any cost. This is a dangerous mission with no promises of success, aimed at escaping the horrors of Kabul and saving whatever remains of humanity.

The film features a renowned acting ensemble, headed by Roschdy Zem portraying Commander Bida, alongside Lyna Khoudri, Sidse Babett Knudsen, and Christophe Montenez.

Previously, Bourboulon expressed his attraction to projects that encompass grand scale productions fit for the cinema, while still maintaining an emotional depth and strong character development. He finds that this true story strikes a remarkable balance between these aspects.

As I was reading the book,” the French director explained, “it felt as though I was plunging headfirst into the chaotic collapse of Kabul, yet simultaneously getting a close-up look at the personal life of a remarkable figure who embodies our modern era’s unique spirit.

Pathé’s and Chapter 2’s film “The Count of Monte Cristo” has been selected for this year’s César Awards, with a total of 14 nominations across various categories.
