For the past 25 years, Ecco The Dolphin has been in a slumber, with its latest game, Defender Of The Future, debuting in June 2000. Now, not only is the original team behind Ecco returning to steer the ship, but there are three new projects underwaytwo remastered versions and a fresh new adventure.
As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that in an interview on Xbox Wire, the brilliant mind behind Ecco The Dolphin, Ed Annunziata, revealed plans for remasters of not one, but two classic games – the original Ecco The Dolphin and The Tides Of Time. These timeless adventures first splashed into our lives on the Sega Genesis in 1992 and 1994 respectively. Annunziata also hinted at a brand new, third game, designed with modern gaming and GPU capabilities in mind. However, he kept the details under wraps for now. Can’t wait to dive deeper into this ocean of excitement!
At the moment, a countdown timer is visible on eccothedolphin.com, and it’s set to conclude after approximately 8,525 hours or 355 days, 10 hours from now. This corresponds to April 26, 2026 at midnight Eastern Time.
The first Ecco The Dolphin video game debuted on the Sega Genesis in December 1992. Ecco: The Tides Of Time, its sequel, was released for the same console in November 1994. The latest installment, titled Ecco The Dolphin: Defender Of The Future, came out on Dreamcast on August 15, 2000.
