As a longtime Nintendo Switch Online member and avid fan of classic games, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the addition of three iconic Densetsu no Starfy titles to the service! Growing up in Japan, these games were an integral part of my childhood experiences, and I fondly remember countless hours spent exploring the vibrant worlds of Starfy and his companions.
For individuals with a Nintendo Switch and an active Switch Online membership, particularly in the West, three beloved Game Boy Advance games will be accessible starting this July. These titles, which include the Densetsu no Starfy series, have previously only been playable in Japan through the subscription service. (Source: recent announcement)
Players need a Switch Online + Expansion subscription to access Game Boy games and special features. The recent addition of Starfy re-releases makes it the first Japan-exclusive Game Boy game on the service. Previously, The Mystery of Atlantis, an NES game, was the exclusive title introduced in the Western markets.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! If you’re an #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion member, get ready to dive into three beloved classics starring Starfy, the esteemed prince of Pufftop. Let’s check out the games:

In the July 2024 Game Boy Advance update video, it was announced that fans can now enjoy a vibrant collection of three games featuring Starfy, the iconic star-shaped hero. These games, titled “Densetsu no Starfy,” “Densetsu no Starfy 2,” and “Densetsu no Starfy 3,” have been previously unreleased outside of Japan but are now accessible to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members. Start exploring these colorful adventures beginning today!
Three games from the initial installments of the Legendary Starfy series, known as Densetsu no Starfy in Japan, were revealed on Nintendo of America’s Twitter page as upcoming additions to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack. These titles, created by Japanese developer Tose, have not previously been available in Western markets. According to an IGN interview with game producer Hitoshi Yamagami, Nintendo of America decided against releasing them due to their perceived “too Japanese” nature for Western audiences.
As a big fan, I’m thrilled to share that the official Twitter announcement was accompanied by a trailer revealing exciting news about Densetsu no Starfy joining the Nintendo Switch Online service! Starting from 12th July 2024, Densetsu no Starfy, Densetsu no Starfy 2, and 3 are now accessible for members with the Expansion Pack. These games maintain their original Japanese localizations across all titles.
