This New “Cozy Horror” Game Mixes Powerwash Simulator, Ska, And Spooky Secrets

At today’s Xbox Showcase event, Friday Sundae and indie publisher Null Games unveiled There Are No Ghosts In The Grand, an engaging first-person game where you renovate a cozy hotel with unexpected musical and sinister twists. Also featuring in this game is a charming feline character called Mr. Bones The Bastard – we’re yet to learn the story behind his peculiar nickname.

In this game titled “There Are No Ghosts In The Grand,” players venture into a dilapidated hotel known as The Grand, nestled in an English village that once flourished in the east. The protagonist is Chris David, an American who has unexpectedly inherited the property due to his father’s will. His mission is to revitalize the once magnificent hotel and restore its original splendor within a timeframe of 30 days and nights.

As a gamer, I’m not just here for the fun of it – there’s another reason I’m in this old hotel. I’m a paranormal investigator, and I sense something sinister lurking within these walls. It’s not just any ordinary haunting; it might hold the key to what happened to my father. By day, I work on restoring the hotel, but come nightfall, I delve into the mystery, uncovering clues, solving environmental riddles, and piecing together the truth.

Players will be tasked with rejuvenating The Grand and exploring its otherworldly mysteries using seven extraordinary power tools, each equipped with unique abilities. Among them is a gardening gun that can both plant flowers into pots and eliminate weeds, a paint sprayer, and what’s called a “furniture cannon.” Additionally, these tools come with an on-board digital assistant named Robert C. McBrushie who helps players communicate.

In The Grand, characters players encounter during their journey will greet them in an unusual way: Instead of a simple greeting, each character will perform an original song penned by Friday Sundae’s internal band, The Concierge. However, it’s important to note that the game isn’t a musical in the conventional sense; Friday Sundae refers to the musical aspect as “a vintage collection of British ska and punk songs from the 1980s, reminiscent of an old record you might find in your dad’s vinyl stash.

There Are No Ghosts At The Grand is scheduled to launch for PC and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.
