“This is really embarrassing.” Ben Affleck is disappointed with his kiss from $12M movie, which he called an “unconvincing job”

Ben Affleck boasts an eclectic mix of productions, some more successful than others. Over the course of his lengthy career in entertainment, it’s no wonder he has amassed such a wide-ranging filmography, featuring one movie that Ben Affleck himself isn’t satisfied with due to his own acting in it.

In the movie “Chasing Amy“, which played a significant role in his career, Affleck expressed discomfort about a particular scene where he kissed Jason Lee. During an interview with GQ, Affleck acknowledged that this film portrayed the complexities of male love and friendship, and how even these men experience societal and personal unease. In other words, while working on “Chasing Amy“, Affleck grappled with his own feelings of internalized homophobia during the kissing scene with Jason Lee.

Reflecting on my performance now, I can’t help but feel I fell short in “Chasing Amy.” It wasn’t the acting I wanted to put forward at that time, and it still leaves me a bit disappointed.

In my experience, I grappled with a form of self-imposed prejudice towards same-sex relationships, which made kissing Jason an unexpected struggle for me. It felt awkward and humiliating, leading me to question why it was such a challenge. Reflecting on this, I realized it must have been some internalized bias, as there’s no reason it should be difficult for me. I acknowledge that my attempt wasn’t great and left me feeling quite dissatisfied. If given another opportunity, I would strive to improve and execute it more confidently.

Feeling let down by his performance, the actor also voiced his aspiration for improvement. He confessed that given a second opportunity, he would strive to excel beyond what he achieved in the 1997 blockbuster movie, which raked in $12 million at the box office (according to Box Office Mojo).
