This first-person horror fishing game makes a relaxing pastime terrifying

Fishing Out is a chilling first-person survival game, where it changes the peaceful hobby of fishing into an exhilarating fright experience.

2025 has introduced a number of distinctly terrifying video games. Eyes Never Wake features a monster that can detect you through your webcam, while Dark Mass relies on its immersive underwater settings for scares. Additionally, there’s a horror game out there that employs AI to mimic your and your teammates’ movements and voices.

If you’re eagerly anticipating the chilling atmosphere and gruesome adversaries in Silent Hill, then consider adding Out Fishing to your list as well.

In formal terms, Out Fishing is referred to as a “first-person horror fishing game.” During the daytime, players engage in tranquil fishing activities, reeling in their catches. However, once night falls, they must struggle to survive amidst terrifying circumstances.

First-person horror fishing game aims to thrill

In the short preview, we observe the principal character enjoying a tranquil moment of fishing in a deserted lake, pulling out his catch, and preserving it in a big cooler box. There’s even a brief scene showing him skimming stones. It looks quite charming, making it an ideal relaxation method after a tiring workday; however, that idyllic atmosphere is shattered by the terrifying beasts hiding in the woods.

According to the game’s official description, “players must explore a haunted forest and uncover clues about a forgotten disappearance near the lake.” You’ll also need to return before the sun goes down, as creatures lurk beneath the lake.

Essentially, you’d be on a quest to find elusive aquatic creatures during the daytime, similar to Animal Crossing, and then challenged to venture into the spooky woods surrounding your location at night.

As you journey on, time becomes more of an adversary, yet it brings you step by step towards unveiling the truth. Sell what fish you catch, improve your equipment, and develop your settlement – a precarious sanctuary where reality and illusion subtly merge.

These “hallucinations” strongly resemble scenes from Silent Hill, which could be why a talking fish appears in the trailer. It’s almost like watching Finding Nemo but with an overwhelming sense of fear.

Instead of just Fishing Sim being the only game with an unusual angle, Fish Hunters stands out too because it lets players use different Call of Duty-like weapons to shoot their underwater prey.
