The universe depicted in “U.S.S. Callister” will soon be explored through comics, courtesy of Neil Gibson’s Twisted Comics.
Twisted Comics has initiated a Kickstarter campaign for their forthcoming graphic novel, titled “U.S.S. Callister,” which is based on the universe of Black Mirror. The comic book will be penned by Neil Gibson and illustrated by Silvano Beltramo, with a strong emphasis on the fictional “Space Fleet ” series that forms the basis for the terrifying events depicted in “U.S.S. Callister.
According to Twisted Comics’ page for U.S.S. Callister, delve into the dystopian realms of BLACK MIRROR, the groundbreaking OFFICIAL GRAPHIC NOVEL! The thought-provoking anthology series has enthralled millions of viewers for over a decade, exposing both humanity’s darkest flaws and its most remarkable inventions. This summer, you’ll have the opportunity to explore classic episodes from BLACK MIRROR without a screen, as they come alive on comic book pages courtesy of Twisted Comics. The campaign for the inaugural title, USS Callister, penned by Neil Gibson and illustrated by Silvano Beltramo, is set to launch this summer, with more iconic BLACK MIRROR titles to follow. To be notified when USS Callister sets sail on Kickstarter, sign up for the mailing list. Alternatively, subscribe to the newsletter to stay connected with the wider BLACK MIRROR comics community. Newsletter subscribers will receive exclusive behind-the-scenes access and even have a chance to be featured in a future graphic novel.
Despite the black-and-white previews for U.S.S. Callister, the final comic will be vibrant and colorful. Additionally, preparations are underway to adapt other beloved Black Mirror episodes, like “San Junipero,” in the future. Alongside the previews of U.S.S. Callister and Robert Daley’s concept art, fans can get a glimpse into what San Junipero might appear as when it’s released. The Kickstarter campaign is tentatively scheduled to start this summer.
In the opening episode of the fourth season of the popular anthology series “Black Mirror,” titled “U.S.S. Callister,” Jesse Plemons portrays Robert Daly, who serves as the CTO at a colossal VR gaming corporation known as Callistere Inc. This company is renowned for its space-themed MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) that bears a resemblance to the fictional “Space Fleet” series within the show’s universe. In his corporate environment, Daly appears timid and quiet; however, within the game he created for personal use, he transforms into Captain Daly – a cunning, charming, and ruthless character with an insatiable appetite for cruelty.
In the world of my favorite sci-fi series, I found myself utterly captivated by an episode where the creator crafted self-aware, fully conscious duplicates of his colleagues to dominate and terrorize in ways that were downright chilling. This mind-bending tale, titled “U.S.S. Callister: Into Infinity,” was an instant hit when it debuted in 2017, and has since become one of the most talked-about episodes, now available as an extension with the same name earlier this year.
