In examining Elden Ring: Nightreign, FromSoftware’s trademark mystery is evident once more. Notably, Zullie the Witch, known for data mining, chose to investigate the distant, colossal figures that emerge on a player’s second day of exploration in the game. One striking characteristic about them caught her attention.
Mysterious giants
On each journey, colossal figures materialize – at first as blurry outlines that later take shape, exhibiting an unusual blend of a skeletal structure and arboreal features. Upon closer inspection by Zulie the Witch, she managed to uncover their precise likeness.
Within their bodily structure, there appears a radiant tree-like entity that evokes thoughts of the nervous system. Surprisingly, they also exhibit a toothy jaw, which lends them certain human characteristics. Quite remarkably, they possess an entirely modeled lower body, though it remains hidden during gameplay.
As Zullie the Witch has calculated, these giants can reach up to 3450 meters or roughly 11320 feet, making them truly colossal compared to other creatures seen in Soulsborne games. In fact, they are nearly as large as the Erdtree that stands tall in the heart of the Lands Between, as depicted in the original Elden Ring.
On the other hand, taking into account other titles from FromSoftware, the giants would rank third. The upcoming Armored Core 6 features two more significant units: the RLA Strider and a satellite seen in the opening sequence.
A completely ignored topic
Returning to Nightreign, I found the giant beings intriguingly enigmatic, yet strangely absent from any text or dialogue within the game itself. This only served to deepen their mystique. Interestingly enough, the closing scene hints at their potential significance in the overall narrative, a pattern that players have grown accustomed to.
In a natural and easy-to-read manner: It’s most characteristic of FromSoftware to design the biggest creature in any of their games, making it otherworldly in appearance, only for them to overlook its existence entirely. This is quintessentially “FromSoft”.
The video game titled “Elden Ring: Nightreign” is accessible on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the new generation of Xbox consoles (XSX/S). Despite some early criticisms from players, it now has a positive rating of 82% on Steam. Moreover, this game has proven to be a remarkable achievement for FromSoftware, as over 3.5 million individuals played it within only five days of its launch.
