This article reveals major plot points of the series “The Better Sister”. If you haven’t finished watching it yet, you might want to catch up on all eight episodes using your Amazon Prime subscription.
In most exceptional miniseries, it’s the finale that leaves a lasting impact since there won’t be another season. Recall my experience with “The Better Sister”? It was quite a punch in the gut! Naturally, when given an opportunity to talk with the creators of the Amazon show, I knew just what question to pose.
What Happens At The End Of The Better Sister
2025 TV lineup saw the debut of “The Better Sister,” with its complete eight episodes unveiled recently. The show has resonated deeply with viewers since its premiere, I believe, due to the compelling way it unfolds. In truth, it delves into a wealth of information about this family, exposing decades-old abuses and secrets that were hidden but are now brought to light.
Following multiple episodes of puzzling over the mysterious circumstances involving the identical sisters portrayed by Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel, it was finally disclosed that Nicky had killed Adam in self-defense after going there to address his mistreatment of Chloe. In another nerve-wracking scene, we discovered that Adam had framed Nicky by spiking her drink with drugs when Ethan was an infant, resulting in her losing full custody. Only Chloe knew the complete truth. As the case concluded, it’s the emotional reunion between the sisters at the end that remains vivid in my memory.
By the seashore, they engaged in a deep, emotional discussion about all that had transpired. As they embraced and dozed off close to the fire, the camera gradually ascended, revealing those two young girls – the earlier versions of themselves – gazing back at them, also hugging each other tightly.
But why was this the big creative choice?
Why The Creators Took That ‘Little Girl’ Route As The Better Sister Wrapped
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the creative decision made in this show really packed an emotional punch that left me yearning for understanding. Curiosity got the best of me, and co-showrunner Olivia Milch revealed to me that it symbolizes their continuous connection with the young characters they’ve brought to life, carrying them with them throughout their journey.
It seems reasonable to express this idea in a more straightforward manner: “We’ve always sensed that they harbored these young girls within them, don’t we? Each of us has our own inner child, and it was powerful to witness their merging. The narrative structure of the storyline features both present and past timelines, which are kept distinct. However, we wanted a moment of convergence because we believed that the acting and effort put forth were merging those past and present selves. Consequently, we sought to portray this union visually as well.
The tales of survival woven into the lives of the two sisters were vividly depicted, encompassing Nicky’s life-altering encounter with their stepfather, to Chloe assuming guardianship of Nicky’s child (among other things). Seeing it all come together in a single moment after decades of resentment, grudges, and more, was incredibly moving.
Co-showrunner Regina Corrado, renowned for her writing on the highly acclaimed FX drama series Sons of Anarchy, also noted that adult dynamics are hard to escape in this context.
It seems to me that what I’m trying to convey is this: Once you look at it from another angle, escaping it isn’t an option. Those small aspects of yourself are inescapable. No matter how much you transform, you remain those young girls bound together, and the dynamics between you were established right from the start.
Honestly, I can’t think of a more fitting conclusion for this miniseries. I prefer lengthy series that span multiple seasons (like “The Walking Dead” with its eleven seasons), but when you have a concise narrative like this one, I’m definitely on board. The ending was just perfect.
I’d love to hear more tales about Nicky and Chloe, particularly their experiences post-trial and further insights into the murder case – but I’m satisfied with how The Better Sister concluded. In truth, there isn’t a perfect “better sister” character as such – it’s simply two sisters who, despite years of pain, continue to stand by each other through thick and thin, which is truly captivating.
Currently, I need a moment because I’ve been quite affected by recent events. I think I’ll unwind by watching some heartwarming romantic comedies for a while.
Or:
I’m in a bit of an emotional state right now, so I plan to relax and watch some feel-good rom-coms to help me unwind.
Both convey the same idea but use slightly different wordings and structures.
