These Switch 1 RPGs have compatibility issues on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch

Nintendo has officially announced that the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be playable with most games initially released for the 2017 version of Nintendo Switch. It’s important to note, however, that a select number of these games may encounter compatibility problems when the new console debuts on June 5. Nintendo has made public a list of titles that might experience issues, and it appears some role-playing games we previously discussed are part of this group.

On the Nintendo Switch 2, the only game that cannot be played at all is the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit, as the console doesn’t fit within the Toy-Con VR Goggles. However, this shouldn’t worry role-playing game (RPG) enthusiasts. The official English website provides PDF files that outline games with potential compatibility issues either during or shortly after start-up. Among these titles are the Pixel Remaster of the original Final Fantasy, Koei Tecmo’s Nights of Azure 2, Nihon Falcom’s Tokyo Xanadu eX+, Compile Heart’s Super Neptunia RPG, and Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, to mention a few.

In most cases on the Japanese catalog, Nintendo mentioned that they are collaborating with the developers of each game for investigation. The exception is Fortnite, which is planned for a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, but it’s not classified as a Role-Playing Game (RPG).

Ring Fit Adventure compatibility status in Nintendo Switch 2

For the game Ring Fit Adventure, a first-party Nintendo title we discussed earlier, there’s an additional scenario: It can still be played on the newly released Switch 2; however, it won’t work with the updated Joy-Con 2 controllers. Instead, players will need to connect the Joy-Cons from the original Switch 1 to the Switch 2 in order to enjoy this game on the upgraded console.
