As a long-time fan of Fairy Tail and a devoted follower of Gajeel’s journey, I find myself deeply saddened by David Wald’s decision to part ways with Crunchyroll and his role as Gajeel. The passion and dedication that he brought to the character were unparalleled, and his absence will surely be felt.
As a dedicated fan of Fairy Tail, I’ve been eagerly awaiting each new installment. However, recently, it’s come to my attention that David Wald, the talented voice actor behind Gajeel, won’t be part of this anime or any other Crunchyroll project anymore. It’s a bittersweet realization for me and fellow fans who have grown attached to his performance.
In October, the actor shared with his followers via X platform that anything sent to him in the past five years had gone unnoticed. He alleged that Crunchyroll and Funimation unlawfully opened, deleted, and disseminated his private correspondence. Crunchyroll addressed these accusations, promising an investigation into the matter and pledging to honor the privacy of voice actors by simply forwarding their messages instead of opening them.
Looks like the mail issue was what finally pushed me to part ways with Crunchyroll, so I’m no longer voicing Gajeel in “Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest”. On November 11th, I shared this news with my fans and mentioned that I intend to share more allegations of company misconduct on my Twitch stream.
Dear Friends, I won’t be going back to Gajeel in “FairyTail”. Similarly, you won’t find me at the Crunchyroll studio anymore. The number of their misconducts is simply too extensive to detail here. However, rest assured, I will reveal all of them soon, right here on Twitch. So, stay tuned!
In a different post on X, the actor stated, “he had experienced years of harmful behaviors and an unfavorable work atmosphere, which led him to depart from the company.” However, he also disclosed that fans might continue to hear him on Crunchyroll as he doesn’t plan to collaborate directly with them. Instead, productions made in collaboration with other studios could potentially appear on the streaming service.
