As a die-hard Ys fan who has traversed countless dungeons and slain hordes of monsters across Eresia, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming tabletop RPG, Ys: Age of Heroes! Having grown up with Adol Christin as my virtual alter ego, it’s finally time to step into his shoes and embark on a new adventure, 50 years after his last sighting.
Today, it was announced on the Digital Eemals X/Twitter account that Promethium Books’ Ys tabletop RPG book, Ys: Age of Heroes, will hit shelves on October 1, 2024! A year ago, this release was first mentioned in conjunction with the upcoming Legend of Heroes: Trails of Destiny TTRPG. Excitingly, Age of Heroes will be available both in hardcover and digital versions, with pre-orders starting on September 10 at Promethiumbooks.com.
At present, Promethium Books is preparing a selection of introductory books. Firstly, there are the Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide, which provide players with stats for approximately 100 creatures found in the bestiary. Subsequently, an Adventure Book will be released, offering a pre-made story that guides a group of characters from level 1 through to level 15 (and potentially higher). The team at Promethium Books hopes this is just the start and plans to release more books and supplementary materials in the future; however, they can only predict this based on the passage of time.
As a devoted fan, I’ve managed to gather some exciting insights straight from the developers about Age of Heroes. Set 50 years following Adol’s last known appearance, this game invites us to step into the shoes of new heroes and unravel fresh mysteries in an evolving world.
In the game Age of Heroes, your self-crafted characters possess a high degree of adaptability as they evolve. Although it features a dual class system (Core Classes and Elite Classes like Holy Knight or Alchemist), these serve merely as starting points, not restrictive paths. You’ll unlock these as you progress, but rest assured, you won’t be confined to them.
It’s clear from conversations with Promethium team members that Ys: Age of Heroes is essentially a heartfelt tribute to fans of the Ys series. Throughout the game’s development over the past year and a half, they’ve collaborated closely with Nihon Falcom, seeking their approval for storylines, world details, and more. In fact, they were given permission to delve into official documents from Falcom about the expansive universe, even exploring locations not yet featured in the video games.
