The XRP Army Strikes Back: Gemini’s Credit Card Gambit Falls Flat

It appears that Gemini’s attempts to ingratiate themselves with the XRP community have been met with a resounding rebuff. One would think that the exchange’s COO and co-founder, Dom Kwok, would have been more circumspect in his endeavors, but alas, he seems to have been driven by a misguided sense of optimism.

Mr. Kwok, in a moment of unbridled enthusiasm, decided to conduct an X poll to gauge the interest of customers in a card that offered cashback in XRP. One can only imagine the look on his face when he discovered that Gemini, the very exchange he was trying to woo, already had such a product.

The Gemini Credit Card, a stalwart of the exchange’s offerings, boasts crypto rewards of up to 4%. One would think that this would be a selling point, but alas, the XRP community is not one to be swayed so easily.

And so, Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, took to social media to issue a call to arms, as it were, to the “Ripple army” to sign up for the product. One can almost hear the sound of his own voice, dripping with condescension, as he tweeted:

Calling on the @Ripple Army. Earn XRP back with the Gemini Credit Card 💳 every time you swipe.

But, alas, the XRP community is not one to be taken in by such transparent attempts at flattery. They recalled, with great relish, how Mr. Winklevoss had previously referred to them as “dumb trolls” in 2020, when the exchange was refusing to add the Ripple-linked cryptocurrency to its offerings.

And so, the community has responded in kind, with one commentator observing wryly, “Calling XRP holders dumb trolls and then trying to get them to use your credit card is as ironic as it gets.”

But that was not the only blow struck against Gemini. Mr. Winklevoss’s recent criticism of the idea of including XRP in the strategic crypto reserve of the U.S. government did not sit well with XRP advocates, who responded with a resounding “Tyler… and you want our money? PASS.”

And, as if all that were not enough, some XRP holders have rejected the idea of spending their tokens, preferring to hold out for a price appreciation that never seems to materialize.

It appears that Gemini’s credit card gambit has fallen flat, and the XRP community remains as unimpressed as ever.
