The ‘worst game ever made’ is coming to Steam. The legendary truck racing disaster is tagged as psychological horror

If you believe The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the most atrocious game in the history of the millennium, then it seems you’ve missed out on Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing by Stellar Stone. This long-forgotten catastrophe from 2003 might be making a comeback on Steam this year, leaving many wondering if it’s all just a prank.

The ultimate gaming trainwreck

Initially, let’s discuss why the game titled “Big Rigs” gained such notoriety. Launched on Windows platforms, it’s often regarded as one of the most legendary flops in gaming history, and rightfully so. In this game, your opponents remain stationary, ensuring that you emerge victorious in every race without any challenge. Furthermore, there’s no collision detection whatsoever, allowing you to drive through structures like buildings, trees, or even beyond the boundaries of the game world.

The physics in this game are utterly flawed. You can rewind infinitely at an acceleration faster than light speed, yet some levels won’t let you complete due to the lack of a checkpoint system. To top it off, the textures are unsightly, there’s no engine sound, and animations are missing. This game is a stunning example of design flop.

The pièce de résistance of this chaos is the iconic “YOU’RE WINNER!” victory screen that appears when you conquer a race. As Alex Navarro eloquently stated in his 2004 review, ‘It’s as terrible as your mind can fathom.’ Thus, it’s no surprise that Big Rigs earned the status of a cult classic among enthusiasts who appreciate games with a delightful dose of brokenness.

It seems that the game I’m a fan of has switched publishers now, with Margarite Entertainment taking over. In their own words:

Old games should not be forgotten

As a game enthusiast, I’m all about bringing timeless classics into your hands. Whether you prefer non-exclusive or exclusive deals, we got you covered based on what suits you best. We’ve got the global rights for some truly iconic games like Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, and I can’t wait to share these gems with a new generation of gamers!

Make of that what you will.

Big Rigs, offering an uninterrupted driving adventure, is set to arrive in Q2 2025 with Steam achievements. However, it’s a bit overwhelming to see that it has been labeled as a psychological horror, immersive simulation, adult content (includes sexual themes), family-friendly, hentai, and more. To be honest, I find this combination quite complex for today’s understanding.
