At The Game Awards today, Jonathan Blow and his team at Thekla, Inc. – the creators of The Witness – announced their next project, Order of the Shining Star. The game is currently planned for release in 2026.
The upcoming game, OSS, will feature four unique worlds and a total of 1,000 puzzles for players to figure out, as shown in the game’s trailer. Along the way, you’ll meet a variety of characters, like a queen, a knight, a wizard, and even a boat that can talk!
The new trailer showcased some of the 1,000 puzzles players will encounter in the game. It also demonstrated how players can use elements within the game’s environments – like giant rolling balls, light beams, and mirrors – to solve those puzzles.
This is Jonathan Blow’s first new game in more than ten years. His last release was the puzzle game The Witness in 2014. Before that, he gained recognition as an independent developer in 2008 with Braid, a unique platformer known for its time-manipulation mechanics.
Order of the Sinking Star is planned to launch in 2026 on PC and consoles. More details about exactly when it will be released and which consoles it will be available on will be shared soon.
