The Witcher 3 recieved reputation system similar to that of Gothic 3 or Fallout: New Vegas thanks to a mod

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the addition of a reputation system to The Witcher 3 is nothing short of a game-changer. I’ve spent countless hours traversing the vast world of Temeria, Nilfgaard, Redania, Skellige, and Toussaint, but always feeling like my actions had little consequence beyond the immediate quest at hand.

RedKit tools have expanded the creative potential for enthusiastic Witcher 3 players, notably demonstrated through a project that introduces a reputation system into the game. This allows Geralt to face greater consequences for his actions, particularly in certain regions, as he must now exercise caution in his dealings.

As a longtime fan of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” I can say that I have always been intrigued by the idea of a reputation system being implemented into the game. Having played numerous RPGs with similar mechanics, I have seen firsthand how they add depth and immersion to the gaming experience. That’s why I was disappointed when CD Projekt Red ultimately decided against incorporating such a feature in the original release.

In this setup, we embark on an expedition within a certain area initially carrying a standing of 50 points. The outcome – whether the score rises or falls – is determined by our actions, influencing how the locals respond to us. This system consists of five stages:

  1. Hated: 0~15
  2. Disliked: 15~40
  3. Neutral: 40~60
  4. Liked: 60~80
  5. Respected: 80~100.

It’s important to note that the system is individual for each area. For example: in Redania we can have a status of “liked”, and among the troops of Nilfgaard “hated”. The system applies to a total of 5 territories:

  1. Temeria (White Orchard and Velen)
  2. Nilfgaard (Wizima and the army camp)
  3. Redania (Novigrad, oxenford, and any other regions crossed the Pontar River)
  4. Skellige (All Skellige islands)
  5. Toussaint.

How to earn reputation points?

To accumulate points, you’ll need to complete specific tasks, missions, or actions (like horse races or duels), depending on the outcome and choices made during these tasks, your score will be adjusted accordingly.

Should Geralt behave unscrupulously by stealing from guards, engaging in combat with them, or even worse, killing them, his reputation may suffer significantly. Consequently, the local community might grow wary of us. This rule also extends to merchants who could inflate their prices or, when we are well-regarded, grant generous discounts.
