As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for all things kid-friendly, I must admit, the news of The Wiggles diving into animated series territory has me more excited than a toddler at a candy store! With over two billion music streams and three billion YouTube views under their colorful belts, these Australian musical maestros have clearly mastered the art of entertaining preschoolers.
The popular children’s entertainers, the Wiggles, and Sinking Ship Entertainment have teamed up to create an animated show using the Wiggles brand as its basis.
The Wiggles is a popular Australian band that originated in 1991 when creator Anthony Field conceived the idea for a kids’ album. Initially, the group consisted of Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page, Jeff Fatt, and Phillip Wilcher. Nowadays, Anthony Field performs alongside Tsehay Hawkins, Lachy Gillespie, Simon Pryce, Evie Ferris, John Pearce, Caterina Mete, and his own daughter Lucia Field.
The Wiggles have significantly impacted the world of preschool entertainment, amassing more than 2 billion music streams and accumulating over 3 billion views on YouTube. This popular group has sold an impressive 30 million albums and DVDs, along with 8 million books.
As Luke O’Neill, CEO of the beloved Wiggles, I am excited to share our long-held ambition: diving into fresh territories by creating an animated series. We are overjoyed to collaborate with Sinking Ship, a like-minded partner who will help us broaden the creative horizons of our cherished brand.
As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on this exciting new venture. Carla de Jong, the mastermind behind co-production at Sinking Ship, has expressed her admiration for the Wiggles. She’s not just wowed by their ability to grasp their audience, but also by their continuous adaptation to cater to their evolving needs. Stepping into the realm of animation is a fresh creative avenue that will enable us to engage with preschoolers and families in innovative ways. This move seems like a natural progression in the brand’s evolution.
You can access The Wiggles’ content not only through their dedicated app but also on multiple streaming services such as Peacock, Happy Kids, The Roku Channel, Sensical, Ketchup TV, KidStream, Amazon Prime Video, and Kidoodle TV.
More recent updates involve launching a YouTube channel, venturing into the adult techno scene with “The Wiggles Sound System: Rave of Innocence” music videos and album, starting a parenting podcast called “Wiggle Talk”, and partnering up with popular children’s brands like Blippi, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Miss Rachel. The upcoming summer promises their international Bouncing Balls tour debut.
