The “White Lotus Kill-or-Be-Killed Report” is a regular update on the hotel guests and staff, predicting who might commit or become victims of murder after this week’s episode titled “The Meaning of Dreams.
A dream sequence, far from being subtle, kicks off our slow-paced episode. In my view, dream sequences and drug trips are the aspects of entertainment that miss the mark more often than they hit it, and this episode seems to have both. I must admit, I’m finding the pace akin to a relaxed beach holiday rather than the suspenseful speed of a murder investigation. I’m eager for some chaos, and it feels like we’re still in the prelude to a more intense show. Honestly, Walton Goggins’s (exceptional!) Architectural Digest tour held my attention more. However, let’s concentrate on the topic of murder with this week’s Kill-or-Be-Killed Report.
A dream sequence at the start made our episode slow. I don’t like dream sequences or drug trips in shows because they usually miss their mark, and this one had both. It feels like the show is moving slowly, not fast enough for a murder mystery. I want action, and it seems we’re still in the beginning of a more exciting show. Walton Goggins’s Architectural Digest tour was more interesting. But let’s focus on murder with this week’s Kill-or-Be-Killed Report.
Valentin
It’s evident that he’s drawing attention to himself, right at the top, due to the shrewd observations by many of you about Valentin’s casual greeting to Gaitok being extremely suspicious, given the sequence of events involving the armed robbery. His behavior seems fishy, leading one to ponder if he could be in collusion with Chloe, and perhaps even Greg-Gary. Since Chloe and Greg-Gary aren’t even hotel guests, their presence there raises questions about them possibly seeking new targets.
During his downtime from cons, he’s keeping occupied by rejuvenating the positive energy of the triumphant blonde group. It’s likely that Jaclyn’s persistent suggestion for Laurie to engage with him will not turn out as planned; the timing and method remain uncertain. In the interim, you might encounter him subtly adjusting everyone’s alignment in a yoga class, adding a touch of sensuality to the practice.
Will he kill or be killed? I’m putting him in the KILLER column.
Rick
Following Rick’s rude behavior towards Chelsea, Chloe, and practically everyone else at the hotel, it’s quite intriguing to witness him switch on his charismatic demeanor towards Sritala, planning his next scheme: posing as a producer who could cast her in a project, conveniently enough, he claims to be going to Bangkok for. (I find it amusing how he says to Fabian, “I didn’t catch your name, but never mind,” and departs before Fabian can respond.) I also find it quite humorous that he exploits Chelsea’s interest in astrology to sabotage their relationship whenever it serves his purposes.
In another compulsory stress-management meeting, Rick admits that he’s done many wrong actions and expresses a hope that, even though he can’t regain his life, he might still find some contentment. It’s quite ordinary, really! Later on, Rick chooses to release all the dangerous snakes from the run-down snake exhibit, which he feels drawn to visit, after smoking some questionable marijuana.
It seems Rick harbors resentment towards Sritala’s spouse, who he might believe was responsible for his father’s death. Given his demonstrated abilities so far, it’s likely the planned assassination at that location will be successfully carried out.
Is it more apt to phrase it as: “Is it a question of whether he’ll kill or be killed? He seems to have a history of violence and appears intent on causing harm again. However, given his shady nature, it’s unexpected but possible that he won’t actually hurt anyone. Yet, I hope he gets caught and taken out of the equation.
Chelsea
In a state of bewilderment and frustration, I found myself taken aback when Chelsea referred to Rick as her “soul mate” and “life partner.” I had always thought she was one of those sharp-witted ladies who had cleverly maneuvered herself into a mutually beneficial situation, using the facade of romantic companionship for personal gain. However, it now seems that she genuinely believes Rick is the love of her life. This revelation makes it challenging for me to fully support their relationship.
As Chelsea questions if they’ll ever have fun again, I find myself posing the same query. After all, this is a man who released a venomous snake that BIT HER LEG and could have cost her her life! And yet, she continues to share meals and intimacy with him – and he shows no remorse for his actions!
“You’re not going to shake me off so easily,” Chelsea says, while I exclaim at my screen, “Jesus Christ, Chelsea, break up with this jerk!” The Gulf of Thailand is teeming with countless other fish; it’s high time she found one that truly values her.
Will she survive or meet her end? I’m still banking on the idea that Chelsea will triumph. It seems quite promising for her! Oh, I never thought of it this way: If she adores Rick and he’s determined to embark on a vengeful killing spree, won’t she push back and want to tag along? I yearn for more success for her!
Victoria
Regarding that dream: Victoria ventures into the ocean, encountering a massive tidal wave. Her home lies behind her, yet she’s powerless against this “natural” catastrophe (a severe weather event whose intensity is significantly influenced by human-induced climate change). All she can do is submerge. What could its symbolism be???
It’s clear that her main worry when her son embarks on a boat trip in a foreign land with unknown individuals is whether the wealthy people involved are regarded as “honorable” or “shady.” One has to ponder how she’d respond if her own lifestyle relied on tainted funds and bribes. Is such behavior considered honorable or shady, one might ask (or perhaps she already knows this?).
Is it uncertain whether she’ll take someone else’s life or lose hers herself at this moment. However, given her medication circumstances, an unintentional homicide could potentially happen.
Belinda
The connection between Belinda and her guide, Pornchai, is incredibly charming, almost as if they’re in a dreamy dance on another world, especially when he holds her like a new bride while spinning her in the pool. It’s heartwarming, even though it seems far removed from the rest of our storyline. I was glad to see Belinda confront Greg-Gary assertively; I have faith that his rejection won’t deter her. I can’t wait for the part of this series where Belinda gets to solve mysteries!
Is it possible that she could face danger, but ultimately survive to share more of her thrilling experiences, and I don’t imagine her in a situation where she’d handle a weapon.” This version maintains the original sentiment while sounding natural and easy to read.
Timothy
The person’s phone just won’t stop ringing or vibrating, it’s like a constant stream of messages and calls. Meanwhile, the FBI are at his workplace, while over here in Thailand, everyone’s devices are being collected by Pam. Timothy seems to be experiencing a mental breakdown, yet none of his family members have noticed, and I find that incredibly touching.
Is it more likely that he’ll survive or meet his demise? It seems rather disappointing if his story ends with him being killed; it would leave his entire family to face the consequences. I believe he’ll depart from the White Lotus as a tormented man, a once-respected businessman whose reputation has crumbled, but who didn’t, at least, end up committing murder during his vacation.
Gaitok
It turns out my suspicions were correct: Gaitok was nearly let go, but managed to avoid dismissal due to Sritala’s mercy. Incredibly, Gaitok believes that his failure in the security role could lead to a promotion as Sritala’s personal guard – I find this hard to believe! As for Mook, I have confidence he can perform better; my apologies!
It seems to me that there’s a strong possibility he might take someone’s life, either as a show of his masculinity or out of ineptitude in his profession.
Saxon
It’s obvious that Timothy rarely receives compliments from his father, as even a small kindness from him seems to make Saxon as malleable as Play-Doh in his hands. It appears that something was amiss when his father subtly mentioned, “There’s more to life than success,” but it seems he didn’t catch on. With his phone taken away, Saxon feels the need for a new challenge and sets his focus on Lochlan. In a classic move from teen movies of the early 2000s, Saxon decides that Lochlan should have romantic success by the end of the week. However, he quickly gets sidetracked by Chloe instead. Oh well, moving on…
Is it more likely that he’ll end up hurting others or become the victim himself? Given his immaturity, it seems unlikely that he would be capable of causing harm; however, his arrogance could potentially make him a target.
Lochlan
I’d like to clarify a few things. Is there a specific method or therapy session you’re referring to when you say “corrective posture treatment”?
Regarding this scene in the episode, it seems like we’re observing someone analyzing Lochlan’s behavior, pointing out that he appears closed off and lacks confidence. I’m curious, though, what exactly is the purpose of this scene? Why is this being shown in this hour-long episode?
Lastly, I find it interesting that Saxon seems to be making assumptions about Lochlan’s sexual orientation. It appears he’s assuming Lochlan is straight without even considering the possibility that Lochlan might be gay. Is this something you or others have noticed in the show as well?
Will he live or die? I’m finding it hard to muster up the energy to worry! May the exercise aimed at improving his posture also boost his character a bit.
Piper
It’s fascinating to listen to her big brother call her someone who consistently gets what she wants, even though he has a predatory nature. This shows her influence, albeit subtly exercised, as her peculiar interest was able to convince her entire family to embark on a 35-hour journey away from home. It’s puzzling why this narrative choice was made, as she repeatedly travels back to that village only to learn her interview is scheduled for Friday. I find myself questioning the structure of this episode: Why was it necessary to show her making the long journey when the interview wouldn’t happen until several days later? I’ve always held the view that a “hour-long” program should ideally run for 47 minutes, with very few exceptions like The Sopranos. Even the greats managed to deliver compelling stories within time constraints and commercial breaks, making their work even more impressive!
Will it come down to her either becoming dull or facing the monotony of life? That’s my concern. Yet, I remain optimistic about potential growth and change!
Jaclyn, Laurie, and Kate
In simpler terms, Laurie gives in to peer pressure and allows her energy to be healed, which she refers to as an intimate experience, sparking a broader discussion about spirituality among the group. We learn that Kate regularly attends church but identifies independently; however, her husband, who owns a business and likely moved with her to Texas, is a Republican. The expression Kate makes when Laurie asks if she voted for Trump is priceless, resembling someone crushing a can. It’s amusing how quickly the other girls seize the opportunity to visit Kate in Austin, trying to escape the awkward conversation about Kate being unexpectedly supportive of the Republican party. At the end of the night, Jaclyn and Laurie share their mutual dismay over Kate’s political beliefs, unbeknownst to her.
Given that it’s now known Kate is the only one among them who has handled and possibly fired a firearm, it could imply she may be capable of causing harm, potentially hinting at a possible fate for her companions throughout the season.
Chloe
Much like I find myself expressing my frustration at the beginning of an episode, Chloe voices her disappointment over Gary’s mysteriousness. To be honest, I was hoping that Chloe would turn out to be a clever character hiding behind a facade of simplicity, but it seems she has fallen for Gary’s dubious tale about his wife’s demise. Frankly, we all know it’s a load of nonsense, but it’s puzzling how someone like Chloe, a woman who claims to be worldly-wise, doesn’t see the massive red flags in a story where the body was never found. Could there be a twist in store where she has been aware of everything all along, planning to use this information against him for her own gain?
I always keep my distance from Chloe, which unfortunately leaves her open to Saxon’s attention. However, she has a powerful opening line to defend herself: “I hear you’re a jerk.
In this scenario, I’d say there’s a strong possibility that she may end up causing harm (killing), but it’s also possible that harm could come to her (being killed). Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the best outcome!
Keep an eye on:
1. Mook, who keeps sending mixed messages and hasn’t engaged in substantial interaction with anyone other than Gaitok, I hope will change this before the season ends;
2. Pornchai, who is smitten beyond belief with Belinda;
3. Sritala, who seems completely captivated by Rick’s charm, causing me concern for her well-being;
4. Fabian, who is being egged on by the victory-lap blondes to ask Sritala for a performance spot (this part of the episode felt rather drawn out; wasn’t a similar scenario played out with a different cast member seeking guest performances just last season?);
5. Pam, who holds the true power in the castle, as she manages the Ratliffs’ electronics.
