The “White Lotus Kill-or-Be-Killed Report” is a weekly discussion about the hotel’s guests and staff, predicting who might commit a murder or become a victim of one after this week’s episode titled “Hide and Seek.
Before we dive in, I’d like to confirm that everyone here is considerate individuals. As per Victoria Ratliff, there are essentially two categories of people: the thoughtful and the careless. The thoughtful are those you can trust on a boat trip followed by a full moon party; the careless are the ones who make you keep a watchful eye over your belongings even on that boat trip, and require you to carry certain protective items like pills, which you must safeguard diligently. With this division between thoughtful and careless in mind – and understanding that these two types may occasionally intersect, perhaps even within the Ratliff household – let’s ponder over our recurring query for this series: Who will be the perpetrators and who will be the victims?
Victoria
Despite expressing sympathy towards Victoria, it’s intriguing to ponder if the harsh reality she’s now facing, which includes her husband stealing her benzodiazepine and her life seemingly crumbling, might ultimately benefit her. Her observations about the boat ride suggest a level of insight that hints at her awareness of the situation. For instance, her comment about Timothy and Greg-Gary knowing the same people, her description of the boat as a gathering for swindlers and tax evaders, and her straightforward comment about Piper’s lucky circumstances with a “boy scout” father all point towards this knowledge. It seems possible that Victoria is subtly trying to make Timothy feel the pain he’s inflicted on her.
However, it’s also plausible that she was merely having fun stirring the pot. But the fact remains that Victoria appears more concerned about the morality of her fellow boat-goers than recognizing the thief lurking among them – her husband. It’s as if the warning signal is originating from within their shared villa!
Will she kill or be killed? She has more killer spirit than ever before!
Timothy
Timothy seems to be going through an experience similar to “Valley of the Dolls” with Victoria’s assistance. It’s a bit late for him to be having a reckless summer, friend! His preferred mix — strong alcohol and a dose of Lorazepam — suits him quite well: He becomes completely drunk on the boat and scares everyone off by saying ordinary things like, “I’m grateful both my parents are deceased.” In such a state, he even accidentally exposes himself to all of his children and doesn’t seem particularly bothered. Nothing like an unexpected full-frontal exposure to remind us that we’re on the channel once known as HBO. As Pam would put it: How delightful for you.
When Timothy gets back together with his beloved device – his phone – he discovers that Kenny is working with the federal authorities, which probably means that Timothy’s funds are already locked up and he’s facing several months in a federal penitentiary. Timothy declares he’d rather perish; however, allow me to suggest a different perspective: suicide might indeed be an alternative. “What should I inform my family?” he laments, but the truth is, that doesn’t seem like something his lawyer needs to address.
It appears as though he desires to meet his end at someone else’s hands, yet it remains uncertain whether this choice will actually lead to his demise.
Saxon
As a movie critic, I find Saxon’s antics growing tiresome, intentionally so, it seems. He’s transformed into a modern-day Gaston, complete with protein-guzzling advice and book-bashing commands. A caricature of masculinity, if you will. I eagerly await the moment when his actions stir surprise or intrigue within me. Here’s hoping for a fresh twist next week!
Will he kill or be killed? I am, as ever, praying on his downfall.
Piper
It appears that the Ratliff family seems to have a history of deceitful activities. Piper’s desire to spend a year in Thailand might be her attempt to explore new opportunities, but Lochlan’s sudden change of plans to attend a party instead of supporting her during this important announcement seems rather inconsiderate. Also, I wonder if Piper requires parental approval for this trip and whether she has completed school yet. It’s unclear why this journey is significant to me, as it feels like she’s been stranded on an isolated part of the show, missing out on some exciting moments. However, I did appreciate the casual way she mentioned, in a charming tone, “I’m sure you all cheat on your taxes, Mom.
It appears as though she’ll primarily engage in yoga and introspection rather than taking any aggressive action against someone else.
Lochlan
It seems like Lochlan gains companions on boats through performing magic tricks. Does this imply he’s also skilled at deception? Frankly, it’s hard to say, as I find the children here rather unimpressive. Oh, how I long for Sydney!
Will he kill or be killed? I sure wish he would do SOMEthing!!!
Mook
In my notes, when Mook arrived with the striking headdress, I jotted down “At last, Mook is dancing; assign Lisa tasks!” (Regrettably, we don’t see the dance in this installment because the show’s rhythm, as you know, doesn’t always sit well with me.) Furthermore, it appears that Lisa believes Gaitok will receive a promotion for his “courage” (a blunder that was entirely his responsibility) during the robbery. This seems like an illogical deduction to me, which leads me to suspect that Mook might have been involved in the heist as well. It’s hard to imagine she doesn’t grasp that Gaitok is frequently leaving his post to send those heart-eyed emojis her way. Isn’t she deliberately keeping him preoccupied, I wonder?
Will she end up being a victim or the instigator of the conflict? It seems she’s not directly involved in the violence yet, but there’s certainly some suspicious activity happening around here.
Gaitok
Fabian clarifies to Gaitok that his role goes beyond merely greeting people at the gate. Consequently, due to Gaitok’s struggle with managing duties and lack of expertise in handling firearms, he was given access to a gun. On the very same day that Fabian advises Gaitok to improve because there’s been an increase in crime on the island, Gaitok abandons both this new weapon and his security post to escort Mook to her performance. Thus, almost as soon as Gaitok is entrusted with a firearm, he neglects it and it vanishes. I find myself concerned about this character, but he might just be the least intelligent on this series – and that’s saying something!
Will he kill or be killed? He’s a dead man.
Chelsea
Chelsea skillfully persuades Rick to board the boat by feigning cute sniffles; once cornered, she presses him to disclose his true feelings for their relationship to be based on honesty. Remarkably, she compares the yacht to a boat owned by an oligarch, hinting at her past experiences with such vessels. Frankly, I can’t wrap my head around why Chelsea remains attached to Rick—not having watched “The Princess Bride” is practically grounds for breaking up in my book—but Chelsea remains loyal to her partner. However, it seems Rick is departing for Bangkok without her.
In simpler terms, the question “Will she kill or be killed?” can be rephrased as “Will she cause someone’s death or will someone else cause her death?” This drama often includes lines that suggest impending danger, such as “This feels like something out of Final Destination,” where it seems death is inevitable. However, I personally hope to see her take the initiative and do the killing herself.
Rick
In the show, Rick steals the spotlight during a tedious financial discussion among the crew on the ship, quipping, “If I ever need assistance in concealing money from the government or my former spouses, you’re the ones to call!” Later, he confides in Chelsea about the hotel they are staying at being owned by the man who killed her father. Remarkably, she handles this revelation quite well. The story Rick tells about his dad is questionable (claiming he came to Thailand to help people? Well, that’s interesting…) and I wonder if Rick can discern the untruth or if his belief in his father’s altruism stems from this being the only memory he retains.
It appears he intends to cause harm by killing, yet the probability of him meeting the same fate seems significantly higher.
Greg-Gary
The episode concludes as Greg-Gary remains solitary in his dimly lit manor, scrutinizing Belinda on the internet. It’s intriguing how antagonists often choose to search online in the dark. Saving energy for those late-night villainous schemes, I suppose.
As for Greg-Gary, he appears to sense that Timothy is hiding something, but it’s puzzling why he would be concerned, considering his numerous other commitments.
Is it a matter of whether he’ll be the one to take a life or lose it? If he manages to escape punishment yet another time for taking a life, it feels like just replaying an old story we’ve seen before. It would be quite fulfilling to witness his own demise. Perhaps Belinda could be the one to end his life!
Belinda
Since Greg-Gary and she have recognized each other, I’m concerned about her safety. However, her integrity and goodness shine through in subtle ways: She conducts her online research during the daylight hours, which is characteristic of honest individuals. Moreover, her affection for her son is genuinely heartwarming. I really hope they both make it safely through this situation.
Will she survive against Greg-Gary or meet her end at his hands? I genuinely wish she overpowers him! Particularly if she discovers that he’s been investigating her son… After all, there’s no limit to what she won’t do to protect her little boy, isn’t there?
Jaclyn, Laurie, and Kate
After our triumphant victory, our blonde group is starting to disintegrate. They can barely get through breakfast without arguing with each other. Their shallow friendship is crumbling so much that it can’t handle a casual outing without a plan. So, Jaclyn, who has just been dumped by her husband, decides they need to have some fun today!!! The way they interact with Valentin makes me wish I wasn’t here (complimentary). The way Jaclyn encourages the relationship between Laurie and Valentin is reminiscent of being thirteen and being told by adults that the waiter was flirting with me!!!!! when in reality, he was just being polite and professional.
Valentin frequently takes them on disastrous excursions, but surprisingly, they seem unfazed. It’s frustrating to me that after getting drenched by the kids, they quickly dry off and appear unscathed… like, what’s the point if they don’t suffer any harm as a result? Shouldn’t there be some visible damage, given these outings end in failure?
Will it come down to a fight for survival among them, with the most aggressive potentially meeting their end? Given the escalating hostility within their group, Kate appears to be the one most likely to take such drastic action.
Valentin
Following his questionable actions prior to the robbery, Valentin is now seen as both charming and tormenting the triumphant blondes. It appears he’s determined to spoil their day. What can we infer about his plan? Was sending them to the retirement beach a joke or something else? (I was hoping they had simply entered the wrong place.) Did he intentionally leave them in the neighborhood where he knew they would encounter children armed with water guns, or was that an additional trick to get Jaclyn back for labeling him their “butler”?
It seems that he’s pushing the limits and might face consequences, potentially being caught and unable to continue his schemes in the future.
Chloe
In a different phrasing, Chloe successfully convinces Greg-Gary to give up his boat for an evening, raising the question of whether she might sail away and never return. She is heading a group of attractive women and Ratliff men towards the Full Moon Party, although it was hinted at for an hour, this particular event won’t be shown in this episode.
Will she kill or be killed? I remain team kill for this one.
Keep an eye on:
As a supporter, I’d rephrase it like this:
I’m speaking about Valentin’s pals, Alexei and Vlad. They’re here to sparkle in sequins and give the victory lap blondes an unforgettable experience (their snake tattoos have a certain ominous undertone). On the other hand, Pam is finding herself in increasingly complex situations with Timothy, no matter how much she strives to make him understand the charm of a phone-free life. And it’s safe to assume that Amrita won’t be joining us due to her connection with Belinda’s son, as was evident during the shootings last week. The astute commenters from last week have made it clear that Amrita will likely be disappointed when she learns that Rick is not serious about breaking free from the karmic cycle or seeking inner peace.
