With “The White Lotus” Season 3 wrapping up in a dramatic fashion for many characters, it’s likely that this HBO series will make a strong impact during this year’s Emmy Awards, much like its influence in the previous seasons 1 and 2.
This year, the entire cast is considering re-entering the categories for best supporting actor/actress. However, some actors might feel that they’re more fit for a lead role, so things could shift. The TV Academy hasn’t decided on the exact number of slots in the best supporting actor/actress categories for dramas yet, as they wait to tally the submissions. But, they seem inclined to have eight nominees.
To refresh your memory, at the 2023 Emmys, which was the last year “The White Lotus” could be nominated, a total of nine actors from the series received nominations. These included Jennifer Coolidge (who went on to win), Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, Simona Tabasco, F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, and Will Sharpe.
This year’s race for dramatic series awards is incredibly unpredictable, as a variety of compelling shows such as “The White Lotus,” “The Last of Us,” “Severance,” “The Pitt,” “Paradise,” “Andor,” and “Landman” are all strong contenders.
The announcement of nominees won’t take place until July 15, however, we’d like to share our educated guesses (listed alphabetically) regarding who might secure a position within the 2025 Emmy Awards’ supporting categories.
Leslie Bibb
On this season of “The White Lotus,” Leslie Bibb captivates as the MAGA-aligned housewife Kate Bohr. However, much of her role involves subtle response shots, as her character maneuvers the complex dynamics between Jaclyn and Laurie. But, could it be that Kate’s shocking dinner scene expressing her pro-Trump views, along with her stylish bob haircut, give her a chance in the Emmy Awards race?
Carrie Coon
I truly believe I’m on the right track for a “White Lotus” acting nomination this year, given my compelling portrayal of Laurie Duffy. This character was a captivating blend of simplicity and complexity, as she underwent some of the most transformative changes throughout the season. Initially, Laurie appeared as Jaclyn’s (Michelle Monaghan) quiet companion, but as the story unfolded, she emerged as a vibrant, bold individual, even finding herself entangled with a questionable con artist. The climax of the season, featuring her poignant monologue on friendship, served as a testament to a remarkable performance, rich in nuanced facial expressions that resonated deeply with audiences, earning me the title of an unforgettable audience surrogate throughout the series.
Scott Glenn
In just two appearances on the show, Scott Glenn’s character as the affluent hotel proprietor Jim Hollinger, significantly increased his chances of winning the award for Best Guest Actor.
Walton Goggins
2025 marks the year when the internet will be completely dominated by Walton Goggins, and his performance in “White Lotus” as the troubled character Rick Hatchett suggests he’s a strong contender for the role. While much of his portrayal showed a man holding back his emotions, the instances where a more vulnerable Rick emerged demonstrated Goggins’ acting prowess, from letting his guard down in intimate moments with Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), emotional breakthroughs following encounters with Amrita (Shalini Peiris) and even a subtle smile after their initial confrontation with Jim (Scott Glenn). Add to that Goggins’ history of stealing scenes on Peak TV, as well as his over-the-top role in “The Righteous Gemstones” – which aired simultaneously with “White Lotus” on HBO – and it seems like an award is inevitable.
Jason Isaacs
Jason Isaacs’ approach to playing Timothy Ratliff in ‘The White Lotus’ has been intriguing for award discussions: Following suggestions from series creator Mike White, the actor delved into the persona of Thomas Ravenel, a former ‘Southern Charm’ cast member with similar troubles, to master the accent and demeanor. Timothy portrays some of the most intense emotions on the show, imagining killing his family members and himself as a means to escape financial ruin upon returning to America. However, with Timothy appearing to be heavily sedated by Lorazepam, is Isaacs’ performance overshadowed when compared to more flamboyant acting displays?
Lalisa Manoban
In the “White Lotus” series, the character Mook didn’t receive much depth, leaving us yearning for more. It’s our hope that the next role given to Lalisa Manoban (also known as pop sensation Lisa) will offer her ample opportunities to showcase her acting talents. Regrettably, this development might not be enough to secure a nomination. Perhaps we’ll learn more about her in a future season of “White Lotus”? She could always decide to switch roles!
Sam Nivola
As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but acknowledge the captivating performance delivered by Sam Nivola in “The White Lotus” this season. His portrayal of Lochlan Ratliff, the youngest sibling, was nothing short of mesmerizing, despite his character being more of a passive observer rather than an active participant in the series’ events. The most shocking storyline – Lochlan giving his brother Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) a drugged-up handjob – certainly left a lasting impression.
As we approach the season finale, Lochlan’s confession that he’s merely a “people pleaser” and his brush with death have me questioning whether these revelations will elevate his status within this impressive ensemble cast. Will we see him take a more assertive role in the final episodes, or will he continue to navigate through life as a harmonizer rather than an instigator? Only time will tell.
Parker Posey
In ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3, Parker Posey once again showcased her incredible acting range, proving why she stands out as one of the most versatile actors of her time. Although Victoria Ratliff, her character, is primarily used for comedic effect and doesn’t undergo significant character development, she remains a vital part of the series. Her unique accent has become a recognizable trait among fans and provides fodder for late-night discussions. However, while Posey’s timing is flawless, it might seem like a long shot for a nomination unless one considers her entire career and popularity.
Sam Rockwell
The surprising turn: Sam Rockwell, who joined “The White Lotus” as Rick’s old friend Frank in episode 5, delivered the most jaw-dropping speech of the series so far. It was initially believed that Rockwell would be nominated for a guest role, but since he appeared in half of this season’s episodes, he can’t compete in that category. Instead, there’s a strong chance he might contend in the supporting actor category alongside the rest of the cast. Given his significant screen time, it seems plausible and even justified that Rockwell could be considered on par with some of the other characters.
Natasha Rothwell
Natasha Rothwell’s character Belinda has become a beloved returnee in “White Lotus,” with this season seeing her embark on an exciting but tumultuous journey that culminated in a large financial settlement. It was fulfilling to witness Belinda safeguard herself, pursue her aspirations, and find herself mirroring Tanya McQuoid. However, due to fewer flamboyant scenes or soliloquies compared to other characters, the impact may not be as striking. Nonetheless, given Rothwell’s past Emmy nomination for this role, there’s a strong possibility that she might make an impression once again.
Patrick Schwarzenegger
Viewers of HBO’s “The Staircase” were already aware of Patrick Schwarzenegger’s acting skills, but his role in “White Lotus” solidified him as a formidable acting presence. Initially appearing as a typical jerk, Saxon Ratliff evolved with each episode, revealing fresh layers as he met new people and had life-changing experiences that fundamentally transformed him during the boat ride home. Schwarzenegger delivered an exceptional performance in portraying Saxon’s character, who grappled with the complexity of realizing not every woman finds him attractive and attempted to understand the effects of club drugs that led him to receive a handjob from his brother. Throughout the series, Schwarzenegger skillfully avoided overacting as Saxon underwent a dramatic personality transformation during their stay at the White Lotus. The longing look on Saxon’s face during the finale, a mix of regret and inspiration due to Chelsea’s devotion to Rick, was a poignant and beautiful moment amidst the episode’s bustle. A nomination for awards seems imminent.
Tayme Thapthimthong
As a film enthusiast, I must say that Tayme Thapthimthong truly brought Gaitok to life in “The White Lotus.” From his initial days as a dreamy, lovelorn security guard yearning for Mook’s (Lalisa Manobal) respect, to his determination to advance at work and prove himself, Gaitok’s journey took a heart-wrenching turn when he resorted to violence against Rick. Throughout the series, we witnessed Gaitok evolve significantly, and Thapthimthong’s portrayal of a peace-loving individual pushed beyond his limits was nothing short of chilling.
Although Mook eventually admired him, praised him as a hero, and even granted him a significant promotion following the violent incident, it seems that Gaitok has embarked on a dark path. His transformation into an antagonist could very well earn him a nomination for his outstanding performance.
Aimee Lou Wood
In Season 3 of “White Lotus,” Aimee Lou Wood’s breakout performance as the character Chelsea was undeniably impactful, virtually guaranteeing a nomination. Although Chelsea appeared carefree at first glance, her deep affection for Rick and her dedication to spirituality revealed a depth that challenged common perceptions about May-December relationships. The heartbreaking scene of Chelsea’s demise, filled with her longing to be with Rick forever, is likely to leave a lasting impression on viewers.
