At the event, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group head Adam Fogelson warned audience members with epilepsy beforehand about the upcoming flashing lights. The Weeknd, supported by his movie’s lead actress Jenna Ortega and director Trey Edward Shults, received warm applause.

In the thrilling movie, Ortega acts alongside Oscar-nominated Barry Keoghan. The story revolves around a musician battling insomnia, drawn into a journey with a mysterious figure who gradually peels back layers of his very being, as suggested by the official summary.

Tesfaye talked about the project earlier this year, explaining that “The movie initially sparked the creation of the album [with the same name]. The flexibility of film enabled me to explore these themes without any limitations.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” opens wide on May 16.
