Few of our Season 3 finale guesses turned out accurate. However, some theories have been debunked by the creators as we approach The Way Home Season 4.
Four days have passed since the finale of The Way Home Season 3, and I’m still in shock. It turns out that Elliot is actually the mystery baby, Colton was aware of his family’s secrets before he passed away, and it seems that Sam isn’t who we thought he was. Who would have predicted such a twist?
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder what twists and turns Season 4 might hold, given we have a long wait of at least another 10 months before it graces our screens. There are several major questions that demand answers, not even counting the smaller details that could be casually overlooked if one were so inclined.
Ever since Season 3 began, two widely-discussed fan theories have been spreading on the internet, but the creators of The Way Home have made it clear that neither of these theories will appear in Season 4, as they are actually unfounded.
Two Del and Jacob theories won’t come true in The Way Home Season 4
The show’s creators, Alexandra Clarker and Heather Conkie, have recently dispelled two popular fan assumptions prior to the start of Season 4: It turns out that Del does not have a hidden child, and young Jacob did not travel through time before he vanished.
In the initial four episodes of Season 3, viewers witnessed Del’s arrival in Port Haven under Evelyn’s care, and her immediate affection for Colton upon their first encounter. By the fourth episode, Colton and Del were an official couple, but Del frequently felt unwell. This prompted speculation among fans that she might be experiencing morning sickness, suggesting that Del could have been pregnant before Jacob and Kat appeared on the scene.
However, as Clarke points out, it wasn’t something we had contemplated before. It only became an idea when fans started discussing it online. “My apologies for any confusion!
“I couldn’t believe that. That was not intended,” Conkie added.
Afterward, there’s the incident involving young Jacob. In the Season 3 finale, Colton recalls that the pond had always been problematic for his son, showing frustration when Jacob once swam in the pond during a camping trip. Young Jacob reassures his father by saying he’s “already done it before,” which suggests that he may have traveled through time in those earlier years.
In other words, it seems like another dead-end situation. Conkie explained that while he initially thought people might react to it, it appears that the person is simply stating “I’ve been here before, so I know what I’m doing.” He has visited this place several times and nothing eventful has occurred.
Clarke concurs that the phrasing is deliberately “direct,” further stating, “In fact, one of the reasons Colton never suspected Jacob might have vanished into the pond was because he had seen him swimming there earlier.
Even if some theories have been debunked, it doesn’t necessarily invalidate other plausible explanations. For instance, we believe we have an idea of where Jacob might have gone, but Mrs. Elliot might indeed be traveling through time with Landry, and Casey could very well be Jacob’s child.
