As a seasoned journalist who has spent years navigating the complexities of reporting and commentary in the face of political turbulence, I find myself at odds with the decision made by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.

Sunny Hostin from “The View” is expressing her disagreement with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s choice to meet President-elect Donald Trump before his return to the White House. On Friday, Nov. 15, the “Morning Joe” co-hosts had a face-to-face encounter with Trump and his team at Mar-a-Lago. This marked the first such meeting between Scarborough, Brzezinski, and Trump in seven years. According to Brzezinski, they decided to resume their dialogue.

Hostin expressed her thoughts to her fellow “The View” co-hosts, saying, “In essence, America requires an independent press that isn’t afraid to challenge authority, especially at this crucial moment. I believe it’s essential for us to maintain a critical perspective when reporting on the President-elect. I don’t think you need to have a lengthy, flattering meeting at Mar-a-Lago to be able to express the truth and cover a story effectively.

Scarborough and Brzezinski function primarily as commentators rather than traditional reporters. Hostin then acknowledged before continuing: “It’s important to recall that Trump set the stage for ‘fake news.’ He popularized ‘alternative facts.’ He publicly criticized three Black female journalists, revoked Jim Acosta’s press credentials for asking a question, and so on. Given this history, it seems plausible that this President-elect might prefer to be covered exclusively by Fox News, even aspiring towards a state media. I fear he cannot be trusted in the same way as other presidents. This is an unusual situation.

However, not every co-host of “The View” concurred with Hostin’s criticism regarding Scarborough and Brzezinski meeting Trump. Instead, Sara Haines deemed it an appropriate choice for the “Morning Joe” anchors to engage with the President-elect since they are employed by MSNBC. In her view, it would be unfair if only Fox News representatives had access to them.

Alyssa Farah Griffin stated, “Many people on the left have criticized Joe and Mika by saying not to accept him. However, over 75 million American voters accepted Donald Trump as President-elect Trump. It’s been suggested that if those resisting him had remained in their comfortable environments, refrained from action, and merely complained about him for four years, it would have been more effective than engaging with him. I firmly believe this is the correct approach. I would engage with Donald Trump, conduct interviews with him, and even go a step further – I hope decent individuals work for him.
