The Valley Recap: Lei Down Your Weapons

Nia raises her glass, saying ‘To friendships!’ as the group enjoys their first dinner together in Hawaii. This unexpected moment is quite amusing for the cast of The Valley, given their history. During this toast, Nia brings up Janet’s apology to Kristen for the argument they had last week. Meanwhile, Jason questions Aaron about any awkwardness he might be feeling, being here with his ex-wife’s current partner. When Jason praises Jesse for improving, Michelle quickly disagrees, stating that he’s actually worsened.

As the others exit to explore Zack’s presidential suite, Jesse pulls Aaron aside for a private conversation instead. It feels like I’m watching a horror flick, warning the protagonist not to wander into danger. Fortunately, the camera crew should provide some level of protection for Aaron… though it’s not absolute. First, Jesse addresses Aaron about his Father’s Day post featuring his daughter, which Jesse finds inappropriate and rightly so. Aaron acknowledges he made a mistake, posting impulsively without considering the date, and then promptly removed them once realizing his error.

Essentially, it appears that Jesse’s main curiosity revolves around whether Aaron and Michelle’s relationship had ever gone beyond the boundaries while they were still married. Predictably, Aaron denies it. However, one has to wonder if Jesse truly anticipated Aaron confessing an affair during their shared trip in Hawaii – a scenario that seems highly improbable given their circumstances. To clarify, I don’t doubt Aaron’s assertion of no infidelity, especially considering his openness about their communication during the marriage. Yet, due to Jesse’s firmly held beliefs, this discussion feels unnecessary and repetitive.

Despite this, Jesse expresses optimism that their conversation tomorrow about shaved ice might mark progress in establishing a mutually manageable relationship. Jesse yearns for Aaron to acknowledge him as Isabella’s father, but Aaron counters by stating that respect is reciprocal. In response, Jesse vows, “I will keep my end of the bargain by not referring to her as a deceitful, unfaithful woman,” which underscores some of the problems in this scenario. Although it’s understandable that he might find it easier to mend his relationship with Aaron rather than Michelle, there are troubling hints of misogyny in how he chooses whom he offers respect. It seems odd that he makes this pledge to Aaron instead of Michelle, who is the mother of his child. One wonders if Bravo might consider bringing on a professional couples therapist, like Dr. Orna Guralnik from “Couples Therapy,” to facilitate the reunion.

Instead of transitioning from the conclusion of one marriage to the start of another, given Luke’s current state, let’s shift focus to Luke preparing for a new union if he can sort out his affairs. As he prepares to pop the question amidst his grandmother’s passing and personal turmoil, he’s been quite unsettled. A memory surfaces of him rushing out of the hotel without pants and taking a wasabi dare, but Danny is hopeful that Luke will regain composure for a flawless proposal – provided he can persuade Kristen to take a shower first. The challenge with planning a proposal on a fishing boat lies in Kristen’s strong dislike for such an environment, believing it to be filled with fish innards. Consequently, she insists that she doesn’t need to clean up or dress up for the occasion.

In an apparently auspicious incident, upon embarking their fishing boat, they notice two stingrays engaged in mating. However, this apparent divine sign doesn’t guarantee a smooth lead-up to the proposal. Kristen expresses discomfort about taking photos due to the humidity, and when she eventually agrees to fix her makeup, she accidentally sits on Luke’s bag containing the ring. The situation unfolds like a comedic play. Eventually, they manage to persuade Kristen onto the deck. As she searches for dolphins in the water, Luke seizes the moment, getting down on one knee behind her to propose.

Kristen Doute is so thrilled about the phony dolphins that she refuses to turn back. Eventually, when he asks her to look, she responds with “What in the world? I apologize for my language, but are you serious just now?” It’s captivating! Since 2013, we have been following Kristen Doute on our screens, witnessing her endure some of the most appalling relationships one can imagine. From dating Tom Sandoval, infidelity with Jax during a Drive screening, collecting mail from Tom Sandoval’s apartment in a green cocktail dress, dating James Kennedy, attacking James Kennedy at Scheana’s wedding – the list continues. However, after all the struggles and hardships, we are now witnessing her find joy.

While these events unfold, Zack is busily exchanging rooms so that the newly engaged couple can enjoy the presidential suite. This necessitates informing Jesse of this change. Unfortunately, Jesse’s attempt to send a thousand hibiscus flowers as a surprise fails. In the meantime, Brittany desires to order shots through room service, showcasing her regal spirit. However, she feels slighted because she wasn’t informed about the festivities, given her close friendship with Kristen, as suggested by her shot order. It seems Zack could have benefited from additional assistance in this situation. Instead, he depends on a petite employee from the Hyatt to assist with the arrangements. She’s barely half his size and kindly refuses when asked to share a shot with him. Bravo should consider elevating her to the main cast.

When news reaches Janet about Kristen’s engagement party, she feels it would be uncomfortable for her to attend due to their ongoing disagreement, so she chooses not to go. This is a grown-up and sensible move, considering the circumstances, and Zack is relieved that he won’t have to deal with this predicament. However, I believe Janet goes too far by announcing her intention to abandon the entire trip afterward – that seems overboard. A more tactful approach might be to skip the party tonight and let Kristen enjoy her celebration, which could be seen as a peace offering; anything beyond that could potentially be used against her.

With Janet and Jason out for a private dinner, the remaining cast assemble in someone’s hotel room (I’m a bit confused since Zack moved rooms), and they don T-shirts featuring Kristen and Luke’s likenesses to surprise them. What a complete turn of events! After observing Kristen debut her James Mae line of graphic tees way back then, here we find ourselves repeating the scene.

Following their friendly welcome by companions, the duo requests discretion about sharing on social media as they haven’t informed their relatives yet. My concern is that this guideline might be unintentionally violated by someone, causing distress for them while providing exciting content for television. It’s quite simple to snap a selfie without realizing that Kristen and Luke are emblazoned on your attire…
