The Traitors Season-Finale Recap: Fire Away

After a tense week filled with speculation, we’ve learned Britney’s decision: she voted against Danielle. As the suspense grew, I began to believe the cliffhanger was merely to heighten anticipation and that Britney wouldn’t betray Danielle. However, I was pleasantly surprised when Britney confessed to eliminating Danielle from the game, causing tears all around. In response, Danielle referred to a past betrayal between them on Big Brother, saying, “It happened to me again.

This is like witnessing cinema unfold before our eyes, as history repeats itself and bonds are shattered. The tension that viewers have felt while watching Danielle throughout this season has finally reached its climax, making all of it worthwhile. To excel on The Traitors, one must either be a skilled player or provide good entertainment. However, for much of the series, Danielle has failed to impress in both aspects. Her actions were frequently illogical and senseless, but since the game relies more on chance than strategy, her mistakes didn’t hold her back. It would have been understandable if she had kept viewers engaged during her questionable decisions, but complaining rarely keeps audiences entertained. Nevertheless, all of the time spent watching Danielle cause chaos this season has culminated in a dramatic blindside, making it worth the wait.

Although the crowd celebrates this unexpected outcome, Britney isn’t basking in her victory as she didn’t plan for it to unfold this way. She voted for Danielle, believing Dolores had already sealed Danielle’s fate, and wouldn’t have made that choice if she’d known she would be the one deciding the vote. As Danielle approaches the circle of truth, maintaining her composure for the first time this season, a disappointed Britney looks at Dolores and silently mouths, “What the heck?” Dolores seems to respond with a look that says, “Why are you giving me that look?” The mistake Britney made was assuming she could guess Dolores’ vote based on her facial expressions. We can barely decipher Dolores’ votes from her words alone, let alone her expressions. Trying to predict how Dolores will vote is like trying to catch smoke with your hands.

Danielle unveils her true self to the gathering by tossing her hair back, and later admits in a private conversation that enlisting Britney was a regrettable decision. Meanwhile, it’s safe to say that Carolyn is secretly delighted about this revelation.

Tonight, there won’t be a murder, but there are still matters to attend to. We haven’t discovered our Mystic figure yet! Luckily for Britney, she’s been crowned as the winner, sparing her from being unmasked as a Deceiver. However, no one can ever feel fully secure in this game, and although Danielle has been eliminated, Dylan suggests that even Britney might be a Deceiver. He cautions everyone that if Britney is indeed a Deceiver, she could falsely reveal the identity of anyone she chooses for her Mystic meeting.

In the end, she decides to have dinner with Gabby, and who wouldn’t want that opportunity? A private dinner with Gabby sounds like a dream! I’d be so caught up in laughter and enjoyment that I probably wouldn’t remember to ask if she’s a Traitor or Faithful. However, when the topic eventually arises, Gabby reveals herself as Faithful. But will Britney be truthful about this encounter when discussing it with the rest of the group?

The response is affirmative! At breakfast, Britney reveals to everyone that Gabby is indeed a Loyalist – a shrewd decision on multiple accounts. Initially, it endears Gabby, making her feel she’s been given a golden pass toward victory in the game. Secondly, it debunks Dylan’s hypothesis about Gabby falsely accusing someone as a Deceiver. However, Dylan remains thoughtful, pondering various scenarios, even entertaining the notion that both Britney and Gabby could be Deceivers, and this entire incident was a well-orchestrated act.

One potential scenario, though it’s important to note that many people share this view: There remains a chance that a Betrayer is yet undiscovered within the game. Dylan is attempting to persuade Dolores and Ivar to settle their disputes and collaborate on eliminating Britney, who in turn has her sights set on Dylan.

Initially, it’s time for Lala to don her queenly attire in a beautiful velvet robe, and this signifies the start of our mission. Less pertinently, it means our players will encounter a heist-style challenge to claim the remaining prize money. This includes calculations, sprinting, and automobiles, but I was preparing to label it as the most mundane mission yet. However, all of a sudden, a helicopter appears on the scene. Our players must now dangle from this chopper, dropping their winnings into a fiery ring to double their profits. Now we’re intrigued! Watching a Real Housewife take flight is what makes me tune in to this program. “If I were meant to fly, I’d have wings,” Dolores quips, but they all still leap into the sky for a challenge that seems tailor-made to reveal their hair extensions.

After enjoying a lively team-building exercise among themselves, the game continues as usual back on Earth, with Britney and Dylan immediately squaring off against each other. They are both eager to persuade everyone towards their respective factions before the meeting. The tension is palpable, as even Dolores warns Dylan that she might turn out to be a Traitor if he proves untrustworthy, which seems entirely possible given the circumstances!

Regarding Dolores, let’s take a moment to underscore some of her standout moments from this episode. Initially, she commended Danielle, suggesting she might deserve an Oscar for her portrayal as a Traitor, pointing out, “The way [she] reacted and convulsed on the floor after they voted Carolyn out.” She also delivered a memorable line when asked about her feelings over their last breakfast: “I’m not emotional, that’s for the weak.” Quite regal. Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that she’s been channeling Liza Minnelli throughout most of this episode in a shimmering red jumpsuit.

As we discuss fashion, everyone is dressed to impress when it’s time for the roundtable discussion, which makes me think about the outfits the eliminated contestants missed out on wearing. I feel a sense of loss for them. However, there are important matters at hand. So far, we’ve listened to Dylan and Britney express their opposing views, but we haven’t seen how they will present those arguments yet. The points they make and the evidence they provide are quite similar, but while Dylan remains his usual charming self, Britney attacks with fierce intensity, leaving Dylan stunned and unsure of how to respond.

In an impressive performance by Britney, her most compelling point stems from Dylan himself who implies she may have turned traitor at some stage. However, she counters this claim asserting that if anyone was to be recruited as a traitor, it should have been him, not her. Indeed, she makes a valid point! Yet, we are aware that Danielle wasn’t making rational decisions. By the end of the discussion, even Dylan admits he was outmatched, likening himself to someone who brought a knife to a gunfight. But will Britney’s powerful performance at the roundtable be sufficient to keep her in the competition?

Britney’s impulsive reaction to Danielle’s exile had long-lasting consequences, as it seemed to overshadow her otherwise effective strategies against Dylan. Despite her cunning moves, the memory of this incident lingered, causing everyone to vote for her banishment in the final round. However, since this was the last group discussion, she departed without disclosing her true persona – hoping that the spark of suspicion she had ignited would continue burning among them.

In due course, when the Truth’s Flame ignites, there’s a breathtaking disclosure that took my breath away: ALAN’S SHIMMERING BLANKET RETURNS! This triumph is a delight for everyone, and I’m thrilled to see it becoming a mainstay of this series. When our final four contestants must decide whether to quit the game or expel again, they (rather uneventfully) choose to reach the end together. Since they are all Loyalists, all four of them secure the reward. We did receive a minor hint earlier in the episode when Gabby mentioned that if she wins, she might utilize the winnings for her wedding to Robby Hoffman. Given that the couple had recently tied the knot, this comment seemed to predict positive developments. With all four of them emerging victorious, it sets a record for Loyalists who have won — but without any betrayal or expulsion at the Truth’s Flame, it ends the season on a peaceful, albeit satisfying, note. At least the reunion will provide the drama we’re longing for.
