‘The Studio’ Creator Says Martin Scorsese Thought His Cameo Scene Was ‘Wrong’ But Didn’t Want to Be a ‘Backseat Director’: ‘He’s Just the Best’

Martin Scorsese didn’t hesitate to offer his thoughts on the project, despite appearing in front of the camera for “The Studio” on Apple TV+.

During a chat with People, the co-creators of “The Studio,” Evan Goldberg and Alex Gregory, mentioned that Martin Scorsese appeared as himself in the pilot episode. They explained that when filming a scene with the Academy Award-winning director, he only offered one suggestion, but he didn’t do so until after they had captured the shot.

During one scene, Charlize Theron and the actor were having a quiet conversation, and it took around ten attempts to capture the shot according to Goldberg, who was the director for the Scorsese episode. “What were you discussing?” Goldberg asked afterwards. The actor replied, “I realized you were making a mistake, but I didn’t want to act as a passive director, so I chose not to say anything.” Goldberg responded, “Well, we could have benefited from that time, but I value your discretion.

Gregory noted that it was quite surprising for everyone on the set when Martin Scorsese appeared in the show. Later, Goldberg couldn’t help but praise his acting skills, stating that they all agreed wholeheartedly that Martin Scorsese, as an actor, was exceptional and astonishing.

Goldberg added, “His appearance was surprising because we had been speculating, ‘Perhaps he’ll cancel. This is too extraordinary, too unique, he’s simply exceptional.’

The series titled “The Studio,” debuted on Apple TV+ on March 26, centers around Seth Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, who is newly appointed as the head of an established movie studio. He grapples with the challenge of maintaining a delicate balance between artistic integrity and commercial success in the tumultuous world of filmmaking.
