It seems that the much-anticipated Street Fighter movie might have secured some unquestionable stardom, as it’s rumored that a past WWE champion and a hero from DC Comics are set to appear in the film.
Based on Deadline reports, potential stars for the upcoming Street Fighter movie include Roman Reigns (WWE superstar), Jason Momoa (known for Minecraft and Aquaman), Andrew Koji (Bullet Train), and Noah Centino (Warfare). If these actors join the cast, it suggests that the Street Fighter film will boast some formidable acting talent. In the past, Jason Momoa has portrayed Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe of live-action films and is set to play Lobo, the legendary intergalactic bounty hunter, in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is due for release in June 2026.
On television screens, Reigns is a familiar figure, having held the Undisputed WWE Championship for an astounding 1,316 days. This former champion has also made his mark on the big screen in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Meanwhile, Koji has graced both small and large screens throughout his career, showcasing his martial arts prowess in productions like Warrior. Neither Reigns, Koji nor Centino’s representatives have confirmed or denied their participation in the project to Deadline. Regarding Centino, he starred in the hard-hitting action film Warfare, directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland.
Since 2023, the modern adaptation of Street Fighter has been under production. Initially, Talk To Me’s Danny and Michael Philippou were set to direct, but they eventually departed, giving way to Kitao Sakurai, who is known for his work on Bad Trip. The film’s co-production is being handled by Legendary Pictures and Capcom, the creators and distributors of the Street Fighter video games.
Initially launched in 1987, the tale of this franchise has been enriched across numerous games, with the primary installments centering around an elite team of martial artists participating in a significant tournament orchestrated by M. Bison, the villainous head of the Shadaloo organization aiming to conquer the world. The first live-action Street Fighter movie premiered in 1994, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as the main character and a memorable performance by Raul Julia, which was his final film role before passing away. In 2009, another film titled Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li hit the screens.
The triumphant reception of several recent movie adaptations based on video games such as Sonic, Mario, and Minecraft has significantly increased Hollywood’s appetite to convert even more games into films. Currently, over thirty video game adaptations are being worked on, with projects like Watch Dogs and Mortal Kombat 2 in the pipeline.
