Be warned – spoilers ahead for The Strangers – Chapter 3! After years of anticipation, The Strangers – Chapter 3 has finally arrived, concluding the reboot trilogy. Like the original films, this series follows masked killers terrorizing their victims, but this time, we see a more prolonged and unsettling torment of Maya, played by Madelaine Petch. Throughout Chapter 3, Gabriel Basso’s character deliberately exposes Maya to his violence, seemingly trying to manipulate her into joining him.
By the end of the film, Maya finally gave in to her darker impulses, but instead of harming innocent people, she targeted those who had been pursuing and harassing her. In an interview with MovieWeb, Petsch shared that even after these events, Maya will probably be forever changed.
It’s clear that the way she’s been pressured has revealed a hidden, darker side to her. From their first meeting, he recognized this. Re-watching all three encounters, it’s obvious he could have easily harmed her, but he hasn’t. Instead, he seems to be manipulating her, subtly trying to turn her into someone like himself.
After experiencing that kind of prolonged mistreatment, it’s incredibly difficult to recover. I think Maya has been fundamentally changed by it – she’s just a shadow of her former self, and her next actions might even mirror the behavior she endured.
Petsch’s Time in Horror Isn’t Over
I’ve been following the news, and it sounds like the actor playing Maya might be open to exploring what happens to her character after everything she’s been through – a potential sequel could really delve into that. But, as of right now, there’s no official word on whether another film is actually happening. Apparently, filming all three movies back-to-back was pretty intense, so she’s taking a well-deserved break from the Strangers universe. The good news is, she’s already thinking about her next horror project, which is exciting!
You know, there’s this one ’70s movie I’ve been dreaming of remaking. I’m still working through the details, so I’m not quite ready to announce what it is, but honestly, I’m really excited about the possibility. It’s such a fantastic film, and I honestly can’t believe nobody has revisited it yet!
Several classic horror films from the 1970s, including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Exorcist, have been remade over the years. Others, like The Hills Have Eyes, The Crazies, and The Wicker Man, have also received reboots. So, it’s hard to say which movie Petsch might be referring to – it could be a lesser-known title.

As a huge fan, I’m still wondering what’s going to happen with The Strangers movies, even with Madison Petsch possibly involved. It sounds like Lionsgate is playing it safe, wanting to see how well the first two films do financially before they commit to making any big decisions about a third one. They’re probably waiting to see if it’s even worth continuing the series!
