The Sims 4: Enchanted By Nature Review – A Green New World

What’s the current size or scope of the latest Sims 4 expansion pack? After more than a decade and countless free and paid DLC updates, one might think that there’s nothing new left to explore, that additional releases wouldn’t significantly change the core experience of The Sims 4. However, the latest offering, Enchanted by Nature, challenges this assumption. It offers captivating fairy gameplay, a fresh, lush environment for living, and the chance to live off-the-grid in the woods. Indeed, this pack stands out from its predecessors.

It’s always thrilling to encounter distinctive worlds in The Sims 4, like Chestnut Ridge in Horse Ranch and Mt. Komorebi in Snowy Escape. Innisgreen, with its Irish-inspired landscape, is another unique location that stands out due to its expansive, region-like design rather than being a typical city or town layout.

Innisgreen boasts three distinct areas: Adhmor Coast, reminiscent of a local town, Sprucederry Grove offering a suburban atmosphere with wooded surroundings, and Everdew, an enchanting magical forest that includes a buildable lot atop a massive tree. This diverse mix of neighborhoods sets Innisgreen apart from other Sims 4 worlds, as none have previously showcased such internal variety.

Innisgreen is not only vast but also serves as a hub for the occult world. It’s about the size of all the towns added in the vampires, werewolves, and spellcasters expansions combined. What makes it even more intriguing is the hidden secrets it holds, along with some locals who offer riddle-like quests known as Fables for your Sim to solve while exploring this mysterious place. To top it off, there are a few breathtaking natural lots where your Sim can reside without constructing a house, making Innisgreen my favorite world in The Sims 4 since San Myshuno.

Initially, when I glanced at Innisgreen’s nature lots featuring large ponds at their core, I thought they resembled the vacant plots accompanying every newly introduced world in The Sims 4. However, with the addition of the new Natural Living skill within Enchanted by Nature, your characters can inhabit these lots directly, and they have been designed specifically for such a purpose.

Although the idea might seem contrary to some Sims 4 enthusiasts who appreciate the dollhouse-like features of the game, these lots still offer the freedom to demolish ponds and construct houses, or even create rooms without walls. Moreover, since the Natural Living skill is applicable in any Sims 4 environment, players now have numerous innovative methods to design homes for their Sims.

In The Sims 4’s expansion pack “Enchanted by Nature,” fairies have been introduced as the captivating, unique paranormal beings. Unlike other occults who primarily use their powers for personal enhancement, such as spellcasters who essentially function like regular Sims but with magical abilities, fairies specialize in manipulating emotions among people.

However, it’s important to note that fairies in the game aren’t primarily about enhancing your Sim’s daily abilities like gardening. Rather, they specialize in creating chaos and influencing other Sims and their environment. For instance, a skilled fairy can manipulate emotions, causing two Sims to fall in love, then instantly making them hate each other. They can also inflict new types of ailments or cure existing ones, and even force another Sim to age up, turning them into an elder with a thought. The fairies in The Sims 4 are indeed delightfully mischievous, making them one of the most entertaining occult types in the game thus far.

In the Enchanted by Nature update, you’ll find a fresh, active profession: Naturopath. Your Sim can now share their expertise in holistic medicine and sustainable living with fellow Sims, all without a daily commute since a Naturopath works from home. Essentially, it’s a nature-inspired adaptation of the doctor career introduced in the Get to Work expansion pack. Your Sim will be responsible for healing ailments and instructing other Sims on self-sufficient living.

For experienced Doctor-career Sim players, Naturopath might seem too similar but with an intriguing twist: the need to concoct medicines for treatments. This fresh aspect isn’t detrimental; in fact, it’s quite engaging. Moreover, it’s worth noting that this career is flexible and does not require your Sim to work more than two days a week, which makes it quite appealing.

In the realm of Enchanted by Nature, you might find a scarcity in the variety of clothing and accessory options for Create-a-Sim (CAS). However, this isn’t because the new outfits are unattractive or poorly crafted; on the contrary, they are quite unique and intriguing. For instance, the clothes made from leaves or the countless customization choices for fairies with diverse wing designs and glowing tattoos make it an exciting addition.

The issue lies in the quantity of general-use clothing and accessories, which seems somewhat limited compared to a typical Sims 4 expansion pack. This is because many of these new items are exclusively designed for fairies. However, the few general-use items that are available are distinctive enough from existing options that it balances out as an acceptable compromise in my opinion.

In terms of new build mode offerings, Enchanted by Nature stands out as the Sims 4 expansion with the least number. However, the unique and innovative nature-themed items – like tree stump toilets, mushroom shelves, Hobbit-style doors, and furniture – make it hard to confuse them with items from any other expansion. This collection is incredibly cool!

As a gamer diving into the latest Sims 4 expansions, I often zero in on select features that catch my fancy while letting the rest slide. However, Enchanted by Nature is an exception to this rule. This pack offers a unique occult vibe, an enchanting new world, and exclusive build and Create-a-Sim (CAS) items that elevate the gameplay experience significantly.

For those players who are more inclined towards the dollhouse aspect of The Sims 4, they might find the quantity of CAS and build mode items insufficient. Yet, Enchanted by Nature’s overall fun factor is so captivating that I am willing to overlook this aspect.
