The Sims 4: Enchanted By Nature – Ailments And How To Cure Them

A fresh addition to The Sims 4 has been unveiled, and Enchanted by Nature brings significant changes to Electronic Arts’ long-standing life simulation game. Among the alterations are the debut of a novel Fairy supernatural species, alternatives for subsisting beyond conventional homes, and – especially relevant here – an entirely fresh mechanism for your Sims to fall ill, termed Ailments.

In The Sims 4, common illnesses seldom appear and can be quickly treated with general remedies. However, Ailments represent a unique class of afflictions that demand particular cures or intervention from a supernatural entity capable of healing Ailments. Despite not being life-threatening, their effects can be quite bothersome to the point that it’s usually advisable to address them early to prevent disruptions in your Sim’s daily life.

How Ailments work

As a gamer, I’ve come to realize that ailments in this virtual world can be quite contagious. They could be picked up by being around an infected character, having one inflicted upon me by a fairy, or even by emotional imbalance. It seems the concept of contagion isn’t just a game mechanic; spending time in close proximity to a sick Sim significantly increases the chances of my character catching something too. And it’s not just about physical contact – just like real-life illnesses, touching objects previously handled by an unwell Sim can also make my character fall ill.

Just as an imbalance in emotions, shown by the new balance meter in the Simology tab, increases the likelihood that your Sim will contract an illness without additional assistance and makes them more susceptible to catching something from another Sim, being emotionally balanced strengthens your Sim against naturally acquiring or catching an illness from another Sim. Consider the emotional balance meter as a representation of your Sim’s immune system.

What to do when your Sim has an Ailment

There are various methods you can employ when your Sim contracts an ailment. One option is simply to take no action and let the illness run its course. This might seem odd, but some of these ailments actually have beneficial outcomes – for instance, a Luck Magnet ailment makes the affected Sim lucky by drawing luck away from other Sims nearby. Similarly, Gnome Lure can cause garden gnomes to appear, particularly during Harvestfest. Normally I’m not fond of gnomes, but they have a new purpose in the Enchanted by Nature expansion – Fairy Sims can use Fairy Dust to animate them!

If you believe the benefits of the illness outweigh the hassle, just let it run its course. However, if you prefer to get rid of it right away, there are four straightforward methods available:

1. Method A
2. Method B
3. Method C
4. Method D

  • Use your phone to visit a naturopath, who will cure your Sim for 1,500 Simoleons
  • Ask any fairy to cure the Ailment–though fairies cannot cure themselves through magic.
  • “Manifest” a cure by visiting Moondrop Spring in the Everdew neighborhood of Innisgreen
  • Make your own cure at an apothecary table

Crafting your own Ailment cures

Creating remedies for afflictions is quite straightforward as the necessary components are common and easily obtainable. This simplicity arises because when a Sim learns apothecary skills, creating these remedies is one of the first tasks they undertake, and the required level is either 1 or 2, so there’s no need for extensive practice. This convenience is beneficial as Fairies, despite their magical powers to heal other Sims, are unable to cure afflictions they themselves have contracted.

To master the art of an apothecary in the game, simply interact with any apothecary station and opt to “Learn Apothecary Remedies.” In due course, your character will be capable of concocting Ailment cures. As the remaining recipes only call for skill level 2, a bit more time spent experimenting at the apothecary station should do it before your Sim can craft all the other remedies.

In the game of Sims 4, these simple remedies can be prepared as their components are effortlessly sourced. You can gather the necessary items by casually clicking on any patch of grass in any world or purchase them from the apothecary table without breaking the bank. As the ingredients are affordable, acquiring them should not pose a financial burden for those eager to start healing right away.
