As a lifelong Simpsons enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement over the latest Treehouse of Horror installment! With Jorge Gutierrez, the genius behind The Book of Life, at the helm, this year’s offering promises to be a gory, grotesque, and glorious tribute to the series that has captivated us for decades.
For seventeen years now, console gamers haven’t had a new Simpsons game, but this year’s Treehouse of Horror offers a sneak peek into a brutal fighting game that we sadly won’t get to experience. Renowned animator Jorge Gutierrez, who wrote and directed the 2014 animated film The Book of Life, has contributed an opening sequence where the Simpsons family is portrayed as the grisly characters of The Simpsons Fighter.

In his unique fashion, Gutierrez made over several Springfield residents. He introduced a lethal move reminiscent of Mortal Kombat for Marge and Lisa to execute on Snake. Bart chose compassion towards Krusty the Clown, but Maggie’s combination with Homer resulted in trouble during their confrontation against Mr. Burns and Smithers, who have merged into a single monstrous entity. Gutierrez also incorporated characters from The Book of Life, inviting Xibalba and La Muerte to make guest appearances.
Gutierrez has been an avid fan of The Simpsons since Bart made his debut in Tijuana during the iconic Kamp Krusty episode. He’s deeply thankful to Matt Selman and Matt Groening for allowing him the opportunity to direct an animated tribute, filled with passion (and a touch of gore), to the series that sparked his desire to create cartoons. With this accomplishment, he can now pass away with a heart full of joy.
Due to the recent completion of the World Series, “The Simpsons” Treehouse of Horror XXXV will carry on its tradition of airing following Halloween. The annual special is set to premiere this coming Sunday, November 3rd, on Fox. One segment from this year’s show will involve Homer becoming connected with a pair of sentient jeans in a parody of the movie “Venom.
