Oh dear me. It seems I found myself jokingly criticizing the act of sharing trivial dreams in our previous episode. However, it appears that dream conversations are about to become more frequent than anticipated. There’s a strong possibility that we might delve into an extended plotline concerning the moral dilemmas surrounding honk-shoo desires, which is rather unexpected.
In the process of our discussion, let’s ponder some questions: Is sharing a sex dream with someone equivalent to infidelity? What if physical affection like kissing is permitted and doesn’t constitute cheating? Would your perspective alter if the individuals involved were named “Chase McWhorter”? Prior to delving into MomTok, I would have presumed that many Mormons might find sexual intimacy a more severe marital transgression than dream interpretation. Evidently, there’s much for me to grasp. Let’s open the classrooms and learn!
At Miranda’s housewarming party in Provo, she is trying to rejoin MomTok, a group she was excluded from following a past scandal involving swinging. She explains that she wasn’t prepared to take on responsibilities during the scandal due to her personal circumstances with the church and family at the time. Taylor shares an interesting tale about Miranda’s ex-husband, Chase, who harbors mixed feelings for her. It seems that in the heat of their group kissing incident, Miranda shared a sex dream she had about him, which led to Chase confessing his feelings for her. However, she turned down his advances. Taylor expresses regret for not confiding in Miranda about these feelings earlier. The drama isn’t over yet, as Messi Jessi (to clarify, this is a complimentary term) is hosting a Halloween party and has invited everyone connected to the heterosexual version of “The Chart” from The L Word.
As I gear up for this Halloween bash, my pals Layla, Mikayla, and Jessi and I head to a costume store specializing in Stagecoach music fest attire. This outing serves dual purposes: one, to introduce Layla’s new beau, Cameron – a soccer coach with Mormon roots and two, to show off her freshly enhanced assets. Seeing Layla content makes me content too, witnessing a divorced woman finding joy. However, the mood takes a turn when an unexpected transition hits us, featuring Zac, Dakota, and Jordan slurping cereal only to spit it back into the bowl. No thanks on that one! I can’t help but wonder if there’s a way to get a divorce for free with any large Dirty Soda at Swig, MomTok. Let’s make it happen!
Unfortunately, we’ll observe the gentlemen trying to display their various aspects. Dakota invites his companions for fly-fishing, hoping to utter “oh frick” and strategize about his Taylor issues. Zac finds himself in a similar predicament. He complains in a voice akin to Elmo with a cold, lamenting the difficulties of dealing with unpleasant encounters and receiving threatening messages on social media. It’s possible that Zac might understand why Jen’s role as an active member of MomTok, particularly online, is psychologically demanding and deserving of respect?
Certainly not! Zac prioritizes appearances over genuine concern. Running into Demi and Jessi in their identical trench coats, he criticizes himself for appearing as the biggest hypocrite following the Chippendale’s incident. It’s accurate to say that he could benefit from examining the beliefs that made him think his actions were justified at the time. Instead of offering a sincere apology, they find themselves discussing Jen – whether she lied about Zac gambling away his medical school funds, if she was ignored by others, or if her diagnosis of Zac as narcissistic is correct. Interestingly, Zac seems to take Jen’s side (to some extent) because he feels obligated to do so. Once again, it appears that Zac is more focused on maintaining a certain image!
In this situation, I believe it’s possible for multiple truths to coexist: Jen appears to be playing both sides, while Zac seems less than admirable.
The chaotic scene continues as Taylor’s parents decide to host a barbecue, inviting Dakota not merely for logistical reasons but as an emotional intervention. After admitting that she still communicates with Chase, the drama king of her dreams, Liann expresses her frustration with Taylor and Dakota’s ongoing disputes. Taylor’s father suggests their relationship began on unstable ground, then inappropriately questions what Dakota’s infidelity implies about Taylor. Taylor’s brother asserts that she needs to make compromises, while Dakota criticizes a casual nighttime invitation from Taylor as subtly promiscuous. This turns into a MomTok crisis, an alarming display of anti-feminist behavior.
Fortunately, Taylor’s sister works as a brand representative for MomTok and takes a firm stance. Her comprehensive strategy involves Taylor and Dakota spending time apart, Dakota seeking employment and focusing on personal growth, and Taylor attending therapy while showing herself compassion. I wholeheartedly support her proposed action plan until she mentions something about Satan influencing Taylor’s thoughts. However, it’s important to remember that MomTok stands for progress, not perfection.
In my own words as a film enthusiast, I’d rephrase it like this: At Jen’s place, I, Zac, share a post-gathering review with everyone about my encounter with Jessi and Demi. Jen uses the term “resentment” excessively and confesses that numerous individuals have made her question her sanity for supporting me after our Vegas incident. We engage in a pointless argument regarding the permissible extent of airing marital issues to one’s friends, particularly when it involves portraying your partner in a flatlight. In the end, we decide to put an end to the “he said, she said” and bring everyone together for a heart-to-heart conversation. Instead, they could settle things by disclosing the gambling stakes and bank accounts, wrapping up the whole situation neatly. But that wouldn’t make for a gripping TV series, or would it? Here’s an idea for Hulu: Next season, let’s delve deeper into the chaos – perhaps we could push things just a bit more towards the style of the gritty, edge-of-your-seat drama, Uncut Gems.
As Jessi’s Halloween party approaches, Demi and Jessi’s mothers operate on distinct frequencies. Demi and Jessi have arranged for Jayson, a Chippendale’s dancer, to teach their partners a choreographed dance. Their intention is to recreate the early-2000s MTV reality show “Boiling Point” by giving Jen the full Chippendale’s experience and amusing themselves as Zac becomes increasingly flustered. Meanwhile, Whitney is just hours away from giving birth and rushing to buy some last-minute Halloween outfits for her baby. Motherhood truly offers something for everyone!
In what I hope is the resolution of the Zac, Jen, Jessi, and Demi conflict, they all gather to uncover the truth. Jen finds herself in a predicament as she becomes angry when Jessi and Demi only speak negatively about Zac, despite her constant labeling him as a narcissist and bringing up his gambling issues. In response, Zac advises Jen to be honest. Jen appears confused and denies that Zac gambled away money sent by their parents. However, it’s revealed that Jen is the type of friend who frequently ignores messages and only seems available for a brief period once a week before disappearing again. In an attempt to intimidate, she threatens to reveal “the incident in Italy” with Demi.
It seems like you were expecting more drama, but instead, it’s just a promotional event for Hulu’s show, “Vanderpump Villa.” In this upcoming season, the ladies from MomTok will make an appearance in a crossover episode. Are you watching “Vanderpump Villa”? Should I start watching it? Demi claims she dealt with a pushy, tank-top-wearing guy as well as she could, and Jen appears to be struggling. This situation goes against the MomTok principle of “women supporting women.” Tsk, tsk.
At last, we arrive at the Halloween bash. About half of the attendees are sporting costumes inspired by “Mean Girls,” while the other half are attempting to pull off outfits representing J.Lo and Ben Affleck, with varying levels of success. Mr. Optics, Zac, firmly denies any relation to Ben Affleck despite Jen’s insistence otherwise. Taylor is dressed as Gretchen Wieners, readying her jaw for some shouting with a massive piece of gum. Just as she does, Chase, the man of our dreams, enters and begins chatting up Dakota. He inquires about his own exploits with Taylor, then shares his opinions, discussing his plans for marriage at the temple. This fellow is quite complicated, and it’s evident why Jessi invited him. As he gestures towards Taylor, she takes it as a signal to join him.
Chase openly admits his affection for Taylor’s parents (a warning sign!) and shares that his life reached its lowest point when Taylor revealed they were open to swinging in public. Taylor responds casually, implying she might outdo this revelation soon. The conversation spirals into confusion as they play “truth or truth,” underscoring how few people on the show understand what they’re dealing with when it comes to individuals like Taylor. In an alternate reality, on a different timeline, Taylor would be the main attraction on Jersey Shore, making the rest of the cast seem almost tame whenever they go out clubbing. She is fearless and charismatic.
In this scenario, she’s angry with Dakota because he didn’t support her during her game of “tit for tat” involving Chase. Meanwhile, Bret and Jordan prepare for their dance routine by applying oil to their muscles. However, we’ll have to wait until the next episode to see their dance performance and possibly resolve the swinging storyline, as THE POLICE HAVE ARRIVED. It seems Chase has touched someone else’s spouse? Pray for us all.
