The Rumored Oblivion Remake Could Launch Sooner Than Expected

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation! It seems there’s a strong possibility that the much-talked-about remake of Bethesda’s 2006 RPG gem, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, might be officially unveiled soon. If the rumors are true, we could even see its release before June! This exciting news comes from NateTheHate, a reliable source known for breaking stories about upcoming games and platforms that have yet to be announced. Here’s to hoping these whispers become reality!

According to NateTheHate (as reported by The Gamer), he hinted that additional details about the possible Oblivion remake may surface this month or in April. Regarding its potential release, NateTheHate suggested it might be earlier than the initial target date of June. However, he emphasized that the situation remains flexible and there isn’t yet any solid information available at this time.

Contrary to expectations, neither Microsoft nor Bethesda unveiled a remake of Oblivion during their Xbox Developer Direct event in January.

In 2023, court documents from the Microsoft vs. FTC case regarding Xbox’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, revealed an old rumor about a planned remaster of “Oblivion” by Bethesda, which was supposed to be released in their 2022 financial year. However, this did not materialize and as of now, Bethesda has not officially announced any plans for a remake or remaster of Oblivion.

As of now, there hasn’t been any news regarding the possible platforms for the speculated Oblivion remake. Even though Bethesda has been bringing some of its games onto competing platforms, such as May’s Doom: The Dark Ages, their most recent significant game, Starfield, remains exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Initially, Oblivion, the beloved open-world RPG, made its console debut exclusively on Xbox in 2006, and it wasn’t until 2007 that it appeared on PlayStation 3. However, before its PC release, it was only available on consoles. One of the game’s most noteworthy aspects is its horse armor, a case of downloadable content (DLC) that became quite famous early on. In hindsight, Bethesda’s Todd Howard commented on this horse armor saying, “People will buy anything.

Although no official announcement for the re-release of Oblivion has been made as of now, a fan project known as Skyblivion, which is essentially a remake of Oblivion, is expected to launch in 2025.

After the massive success of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2011, published by Bethesda, they have since moved on to developing The Elder Scrolls VI. However, a release date for this upcoming game has not been announced yet.
