The final episode of The Rookie season 7 didn’t quite hit the mark, so there’s a lot for season 8 to handle – the most pressing issue isn’t resolving Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen’s rocky relationship, but rather finding a suitable replacement for Celina Juarez. The police drama had its moments in season 7, but it also had its low points. Episode 8 of season 7 was a standout, with an engaging villain, a memorable Chenford scene, and a cliffhanger ending that left me speechless. However, as the episodes progressed, the show seemed to lose its charm, and the underwhelming, predictable finale only added to the disappointment.
In the final episode of Season 7 on The Rookie, John Nolan pursued the notorious villain, Oscar Hutchinson. Sadly for Nolan, he ended up getting kidnapped by Oscar. Thankfully, Nyla Harper managed to rescue him before it was too late. However, Monica Stevens made a less-than-inspiring reappearance at just the right moment. Regarding Chenford, they struggled to talk about their future together due to conflicting schedules. Consequently, the season finale left the repair of their relationship for Season 8 to handle. Before that, though, the new episodes need to focus on finding a replacement for Celina first.
The Rookie Season 8 Needs To Find Nolan’s Next Rookie After Celina’s Finished Her Training
Nolan’s Role As A Training Officer Is Important
In the seventh season of “The Rookie,” one of its main challenges arose following Celina’s graduation from the Field Training Officer (FTO) program. Lisseth Cavez’s character in the show was introduced in season 5, when she became Nolan’s first rookie after officially joining the FTO team. The duo had their fair share of obstacles, but their partnership was truly captivating. However, Celina eventually moved on and graduated in season 7, earning a promotion to Police Officer II. Now, she’s thriving independently. Unfortunately for Nolan, he’s currently without a rookie partner.
In the ABC police series “The Rookie”, Celina has departed, leaving Nolan in need of a fresh assignment. Regrettably, The Rookie season 7 concluded without assigning Nolan a permanent rookie, despite his role as a training officer. Therefore, when The Rookie season 8 starts, it’s anticipated that Nathan Fillion’s character will be guiding a new probationary trainee within the Field Training Officer (FTO) program.
Nolan’s Next Rookie Needs To Offer Something Other Than What The Rookie Did With Celina
Nolan Needs A New Challenge
In the eighth season of The Rookie, when Nolan receives his next assignment, it won’t do to have him face an exact duplicate of Celina. She presented unique challenges for Nolan, particularly as she was his first rookie. However, to ensure Nolan’s character development continues, the show’s writers need to introduce new hurdles for him with his new trainee. The specific difficulties that Nolan will face with this new recruit are yet to be seen; it’s important they aren’t a rehash of the issues he faced with Celina, or else Nolan’s storyline in season 8 could become monotonous.
The Rookie Season 7 Gave Nolan A Couple Of Celina Replacements, But None Stuck Around
Could Any Characters Return?
In season 7 of The Rookie, Lieutenant Grey paired Nolan with Connor Craig in episode 12. At that point, Connor had been training for a year before being assigned to Nolan. It soon became clear why Connor was given to him, as the young officer appeared to lack both ability and instincts. However, within just one day working with Nolan, Connor demonstrated significant progress. Regrettably, by the episode’s end, Grey transferred Connor to a less busy LAPD station.
The Rookie Season 7 Cast | Role |
---|---|
Nathan Fillion | John Nolan |
Richard T. Jones | Wade Grey |
Alyssa Diaz | Angela Lopez |
Eric Winter | Tim Bradford |
Melissa O’Neil | Lucy Chen |
Mekia Cox | Nyla Harper |
Shawn Ashmore | Wesley Evers |
Jenna Dewan | Bailey Nune |
Lisseth Chavez | Celina Juarez |
Deric Augustine | Miles Penn |
Patrick Kelehe | Seth Ridley |
In The Rookie’s seventh season, episode 16, Seth Ridley made a comeback and joined Nolan as his trainee. However, prior to Nolan making any significant impact on the young officer, Seth was shot in the leg. As a result of this injury, he needed to have his leg amputated, which could potentially mean an end to his career. This left Nolan without a rookie once again. It’s possible that either Connor or Seth might reappear as Nolan’s rookie in season 8, but it seems more likely that a new face will be assigned to him permanently, replacing Celina.
