‘The Rings of Power’ Season 2 Reaches 40 Million Viewers in 11 Days, Amazon Says

As a seasoned movie buff with over four decades of watching and analyzing films under my belt, I must say that the latest stats regarding “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 have certainly piqued my interest. It’s fascinating to see how these numbers unfold, and while it’s essential to consider the context in which they are presented, it’s undeniable that this series continues to captivate a vast audience.

In just 11 days since its release, the initial four episodes of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 have garnered a worldwide audience of 40 million viewers, as reported by Amazon.

It’s challenging to grasp the true meaning of the statistic since Amazon hasn’t specified how they calculate their viewership numbers. For instance, a figure like “40 million” might only represent the number of individuals who watched any part of the available episodes.

Nevertheless, the studio has reported comparable viewership figures for other productions, such as the debut of “The Rings of Power’s” first season in 2022, which they claimed garnered 25 million viewers on its initial day. Consequently, based on Luminate’s assessment of Season 2’s opening weekend viewership, it seems that the series has experienced a substantial drop in audience compared to its earlier run. (Note: EbMaster and Luminate share a common parent company known as PMC.)

This year, “Fallout” managed to attract 65 million viewers within just 16 days, surpassing the viewership count for “The Rings of Power,” despite the latter having more time to accumulate viewers. If we consider the 11-day span for “Fallout’s” initial viewer count, it’s reasonable to assume that it would have exceeded 40 million. On the other hand, “The Boys” Season 4 amassed 55 million viewers over a 39-day period, making it challenging to make a direct comparison with “The Rings of Power.

Amazon has revealed that “The Rings of Power” Season 2 is now ranked among its top five most-watched television seasons, with only “Fallout” and Season 2 of “Reacher” ahead of it. This year’s “The Terminal List” has been moved to the sixth spot.

Amazon boasts that over “tens of millions” of individuals have watched Season 1 of “The Rings of Power” since early August, making it Prime Video’s most-watched title since the Season 2 premiere on Aug. 29. The studio highlights a significant portion of its audience hailing from outside the U.S., though no specific data was given to back up this assertion.

Check out the message from Amazon Studios’ Executive Jennifer Salke regarding “The Rings of Power” viewership that follows:

Team,

I’m incredibly proud to be part of a team that has tirelessly dedicated and driven ourselves to bring an astounding number of titles to Prime Video over the past year. Our extraordinary efforts have resulted in one record-breaking hit after another, with four of our top five TV series of all time, as well as two of our top five films. From the highly anticipated return of Reacher, to the explosive launch of Fallout, and the remarkable success we’ve seen with The Boys in its fourth season, not to mention the much-anticipated premiere of The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, along with our breakout films Road House and The Idea of You – it’s evident that all our hard work is truly paying off.

Additionally, we’ve noticed that our global clients have developed a fondness for series such as “Culpa Mia” from Spain and “Maxton Hall” from Germany. In the past few weeks alone, “Betty la Fea, La Historia Continúa,” a Colombian production, has rapidly become our most popular title across all regions. We’re thrilled to observe how our customers worldwide are engaging with these international narratives and look forward to witnessing this trend continue.

Beginning on August 29, we unveiled the second installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Over the course of its premiere weekend, our data indicates that this season is shaping up to be another major success, with a staggering 40 million viewers having already tuned in. Furthermore, we’ve noticed a significant increase in viewership for Season 1 since early August. It’s worth noting that a substantial number of our Rings of Power audience hails from countries outside the U.S., demonstrating the show’s universal appeal and the expanding global reach of Prime Video subscribers.

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone for your limitless imagination, enthusiasm, and dedication. As one team, we’ve accomplished something truly special – not just us, but also our exceptional showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, our executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Callum Greene, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, our incredible cast, the entire crew, and the Tolkien Estate. Together, we’ve introduced a magnificent and enduring tale to a new generation.

I’m thrilled about the growing excitement as more episodes are released. It’s an honor to share top-notch, inspiring storytelling with people worldwide. Here’s to ongoing achievements; once again, thank you for your outstanding contributions. After all, it takes a community to make this happen!

Jen
