The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Recap: Going to the Mattresses

As a seasoned observer of human dynamics and a long-time connoisseur of reality television, let me weigh in on this week’s episode of “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

Last week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was a good return to form. The more I think about it, the more I am into Bronwyn as a housewife. I’m still so impressed by how she handled the news about her child’s grandparents and how she reassured her daughter. I was looking forward to this episode because I thought it would be Heather’s reckoning for being at the core of so much of this group’s drama, but we got even more than just a confrontation with Heather. We got everyone working their asses off this week. Thank GOD.

This week’s event was centered around Angie’s 25th wedding anniversary, which we celebrated with a party inspired by the television show “Mob Wives”. Despite Meredith’s claim that Angie had connections to the Greek Mafia, it made for an interesting theme. For the first time in quite some time, all the housewives put together fashionable outfits for the occasion.

Before reaching the party, it becomes evident that some preparations are being made for arguments that will unfold during the event. Regardless of how much reality TV shows like “Housewives” I watch, I can never grow accustomed to parties serving as arenas for confrontation. Ideally, I’d prefer a party where there is at least one guaranteed argument. Perhaps I’m attending the wrong events? Just before Angie’s anniversary, it was surprising to witness Whitney and Meredith engaging in a sincere discussion, with Whitey apologizing to Meredith for her previous words – an apology I hadn’t anticipated seeing.

I find it strategic of Whitney to apologize, even though it wasn’t a genuine apology per se. It seems she feels Lisa is her true adversary now. I concur with Meredith that Whitney might have expected me to side against Lisa due to the allegation about Lisa planting the Alibaba jewelry story. However, much like Meredith, I choose to maintain neutrality, avoiding getting entangled in another “someone planted a story” debate, as Heather seems prone to do, immersing herself in such situations.

Regarding Heather and those who dislike her, I find the relationship between Bronwyn and Mary captivating as it strengthens. When Bronwyn confides in Mary about the family drama with her grandparents, Mary tries to comfort her and empathize. However, what particularly caught my attention was Mary’s conversation with Robert Jr. before Bronwyn arrived. The sight of Robert Jr. and his spouse (I must admit, I momentarily forgot he got married) gave me a sense of unease. Those two are definitely trouble, and it has been intriguing to observe how Mary’s experiences of neglect in her childhood have influenced her interactions with Robert Jr. I sympathize with her and can understand why she feels compelled to keep him at home even when he does nothing productive all day.

Heading back to the event, I’m really enjoying it! Everyone looks fabulous and there’s an electric atmosphere. The mix of Britani/Jared’s antics with their random date, Aaron, amidst two ongoing squabbles among the women is quite intriguing. Mary’s insistence that Britani’s date, Aaron, is actually Jared had me chuckling out loud. Despite showing her a picture of Jared, it doesn’t seem to change her mind, and I can see why – they do bear a resemblance.

Upon Jared’s arrival at the gathering, I let out a surprised breath. It was evident that the ordinary-appearing man who had been flirting with Britani held little chance once Jared appeared on the scene. Though I may have expressed annoyance about the ongoing Britani/Jared drama before, I now appreciate its role in providing humor and underscoring their bond as friends who support each other. As soon as Jared stepped into the room, Britani burst into tears, and even Bronwyn encouraged her to assert herself against him. Regrettably, he is a common type of man who doesn’t fully commit to a woman, only to make his move when she attempts to leave. Britani, you are attractive and likely well-off — stand tall! Leave him! The allure of an Osmond fades quickly in reality.

Let’s move on to the main topic regarding Heather. It’s shrewd of Mary and Bronwyn to space out their confrontations about Heather, as Mary doesn’t handle interactions with Lisa and Heather particularly well this season. She becomes quite intense, which I can tell makes Heather uncomfortable, and she isn’t making strong arguments. While I don’t believe Mary is a gaslighter like Heather suggests in her confessional, I do agree that she has been more harsh towards Heather than the other way around. After all, she did call her names like “inbred” and frequently criticizes Heather’s weight. On the positive side, Mary does take time to speak with children afterward as if they are mature women too, which is a classic Mary move.

Conversely, Bronwyn demonstrates great skill with her approach. She openly informs Angie about the situation, and when it seems Heather has avoided discussing anything related to her, Angie steps aside from hosting duties to talk to Heather privately. To put it bluntly, Heather’s behavior towards Angie is rather bizarre. This behavior truly reflects how Heather perceives herself this season: she’s still riding the high of capturing Reality Von Tease/Monica and believes she reigns supreme in this group, as well as being the most morally righteous. Admittedly, everyone thinks highly of themselves, but Heather has been causing the most turmoil this season. When she claims that she had a right to tell Lisa about what Angie said because Angie was “mom-shaming,” I’m still puzzled as to why she didn’t confront Angie at the time. Was Angie in the wrong for implying that Lisa is not a strict enough parent due to her son gaming all day? Absolutely! However, it was so clearly a jibe spoken out of frustration that Heather should have recognized it as an emotional outburst rather than a genuine belief held by Angie. The part I can’t comprehend is why Heather is now in this role of advocating for Lisa. Do they even have a strong friendship?

Fortunately for Heather, Lisa and Whitney’s intense discussion diverted focus from her own predicament. Oh my goodness, Lisa seemed to lose control very quickly in this episode, and it appears her fuse is getting shorter with each passing one. Mentioning the Alibaba rumor and implying that Lisa might have planted the story is a serious accusation, carrying a lot of weight on any “Housewives” series, but especially among these particular women.

It didn’t seem like Whitney expected Lisa to become so prominent, but considering the situation, wouldn’t it be more convincing to have solid evidence when discussing the issue with Lisa? As soon as Lisa threatened to sue over Whitney’s source by saying, “I’ll sue them if you tell me who it was!”, I could sense an entertaining confrontation was imminent.

At gatherings, these ladies are usually chatty, but Lisa shouting as loudly as she did was excessive, even for her. Yet, it was so amusing that I had to pause to chuckle. It’s no secret that Lisa enjoys showing off her ability to contact anyone at any time and expect assistance. It’s a power move she uses often to establish dominance. When she instantly called some cyber security professionals, I burst out laughing and shouted that she was going to implicate the police in both Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. I can’t help but wonder what the person on the other end of that call thought was transpiring.

It’s unclear whether Lisa becomes so intense due to her zeal for rectifying the wrong done to her and proving it, which could sustain her for a while, or if she harbors some guilt. Regardless, approaching Justin in such a way that led almost to a physical altercation between him and John was an unexpected escalation. I wouldn’t have anticipated this kind of conflict between the two good-natured friends, John and Justin. Frankly, I’m surprised it went this far.

The episode concluding with “To be continued” suggests we’ve returned to our characters’ familiar ground. This season has seen numerous conflicts, and these women have been adept at brushing off past disagreements in casual environments as if they never occurred. However, I’m unsure how they plan to conceal the aftermath of this party so effortlessly.
