As a long-time fan of reality TV, I’ve seen my fair share of drama and scandal – from the Jersey Shore to the Big Apple. So when I heard that The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was back for another season, I had my reservations, given the departures of Jen Shah and Monica Garcia. But after watching the season-five trailer, I can confidently say that this season is shaping up to be a wild ride!
Despite Jen Shah’s imprisonment following her conviction and Monica Garcia’s return to relative anonymity after the RealityVonTease scandal, some viewers feared that The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City might become dull. However, it seems there will still be plenty of drama, although it may struggle to match the intensity of last season’s thrilling finale.
In the trailer for season five, Mary Cosby is not just voicing her emotions but also joining group activities. Unlike Angie Katsanevas, our first intergalactic Housewife, who doesn’t wear sunglasses that completely cover her face, Lisa Barlow has made all the women dress alike, including wigs. If there are eight Lisa Barlows among them, does that mean we have 56 lawyers in total?
It’s not just the change in appearances that are girl, so confusing, but it’s also how they are acting. It looks like the big feuds of the season will be between Mary Cosby and Meredith Marks, the only woman courageous enough to be Mary’s ally since the show started. We’re also seeing former allies Angie K and Lisa Barlow going toe-to-toe about who is a better mother. Whitney Rose makes Lisa so mad that she tries to snatch the Lisa Barlegend wig off Whitney’s head at an event that can only be called A Night of a Thousand Baby Gorgeouses. (What I would have paid to get a ticket to that dinner.)
Discussing new Housewives outside of our circle, Bronwyn Newport has gained quite a bit of attention. To avoid confusion with another Bronwyn from Newport Beach on the Real Housewives of Orange County, let’s make that clear. She often dresses in a manner reminiscent of Chanel Iman at an anime convention and is prepared to stir things up like a character might ruffle feathers. However, it seems Mary referred to Whitney using similar words. In essence, Bronwyn is causing quite a commotion among the other ladies. Additionally, Meredith’s anger over being recorded and the question of who’s wearing a wire has arisen.
It appears neither of Heather’s friend Britani Bateman nor Whitney’s acquaintance Meili Workman will be part of the show’s cast. In a press statement, Bravo hints that Britani immediately annoys everyone and Lisa spreads a harmful rumor about Meili. Whether you view this as blessings from Mormon heaven or reality television gods depends on your beliefs.
The new season begins on Wednesday, September 18, coming up quickly, even before RHONY. If you can’t wait to catch the show, Bravo is hosting two watch-party events in Salt Lake City and New York City on September 10. It turns out that Bravo’s talented casting team has us wondering, “Who are Jen and Monica?”
