This season really focused on honesty – who was being truthful, who was pretending, and who was manipulating the truth to get ahead. The finale really leaned into that, giving us pieces of information and making us try to connect the dots. It was definitely more confusing than usual! I started to suspect something was off when we saw those recap cards about the season’s events with so much still left to unfold. We got updates on Tamra’s trip, Jenn’s wedding plans, and Heather’s financial loss, but it felt strangely timed – like we weren’t getting the full story. It wasn’t just about Gretchen’s past problematic posts, which many fans already knew. It was about what was real, who was talking about whom, and how far these women were willing to go – to prove themselves right, stay relevant, or something else entirely. Honestly, it’s hard to say what their motives were anymore.
The episode mostly unfolds as expected. Heather and Emily visit Heather’s childhood home and receive a spontaneous tour, culminating in an emotional moment for Heather by the canal. It’s a genuinely touching scene. The group playfully teases Shannon about her Spanx, which feels like a missed opportunity for a product endorsement. Later, Gina and Heather give Shannon mushrooms, leading to a hallucination of reality TV music – a perfectly fitting experience for her. The episode culminates in a final dinner where Heather delivers a toast that perfectly captures the essence of modern reality TV: “May our makeup always be perfect, our stories always be truthful, and our friendships, though messy, always be worthwhile.” It’s a statement worthy of being embroidered and displayed, perhaps even in a museum – though it might be too tempting for thieves, so placing it near the Morgan letters would be safer.
Dinner quickly became chaotic when Gina mentioned an article Tamra had shared – reportedly from her podcast’s radio company. The article claimed Gretchen had liked social media posts that were critical of the LGBTQIA+ community, a stance that everyone at the table, and the ‘Real Housewives‘ franchise generally, opposes. Heather Dubrow, whose family includes many LGBTQ+ members, was immediately upset, pointing out the harmful effects of such negativity and noting that a queer child attempts suicide every 45 seconds. She also expressed concern for her friend, Dylan Mulvaney, who appeared on this season of the show.
Gretchen seems strangely unconcerned, denying involvement but acting very defensively, almost as if she’s trying to hide something. This makes her look guilty, though she insists she isn’t and says she doesn’t harbor any prejudice. She claims she doesn’t remember interacting with the controversial posts and is genuinely surprised by the accusations, unsure how to respond. She immediately calls Slade for support, but his advice to remain silent is dismissed by Heather, who argues that Gretchen needs to defend herself if she wants to save her friendships. Heather is unusually furious – angrier than anyone has ever seen her, even when someone ruined her cake. She passionately and clearly defended the LGBTQ+ community, showing exactly what a good ally should do. She deserves major recognition for her strong stance – she should be celebrated and honored for it.
Let’s consider whether Gretchen might have engaged with those controversial posts. If she did, could it mean she harbors negative feelings towards the LGBTQIA+ community? I doubt it. She’s previously shown support, like when she hosted a drag queen Tupperware party on the show and has always seemed comfortable around gay men, even featuring her gay dress designer on Instagram recently. It’s tricky for her to defend herself at dinner because she doesn’t know the specific accusations and can’t definitively prove whether or not she liked those posts. Plus, proving you’re an ally often feels awkward and forced. While Gretchen appeared guilty, I found her explanation somewhat believable. Similarly, I think Tamra isn’t actually homophobic, despite using offensive language as recently as 2008, as highlighted by a clip the show’s editors dug up.
Even if Gretchen’s likes weren’t intentional, her broader online activity raises concerns. She claims she might have been mindlessly scrolling and liking things without reading them, which is plausible. However, she follows and supports many controversial figures like Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Ben Carson, and is a vocal Trump supporter. While she may not actively hate LGBTQ+ people, she consistently amplifies the voices of those who do. This leads people to believe she’s prejudiced, as her political alignment speaks volumes. She follows accounts that spread hateful rhetoric, and even if she didn’t like those specific posts, she’s still indirectly endorsing them. I don’t think Gretchen is intentionally homophobic, but she isn’t an ally either. She’s complicit by supporting these views without defending the LGBTQIA+ community when given the chance.
As the cast exited the restaurant, the women asked Gretchen to leave in a separate car, which deeply upset her. She couldn’t understand why they had so little faith in her and believed the rumors. They wanted to distance themselves from her completely. The next morning, during a tense drive to the airport, Gina revealed she’d found the social media accounts that supposedly showed Gretchen’s activity, but couldn’t find any record of Gretchen actually liking or following them. This suggested there wasn’t as much evidence as Tamra claimed. Gina pointed out on the bus that Tamra and Gretchen were caught in a cycle of attacking each other based on unverified internet posts, and they risked damaging each other’s lives. She added that she didn’t want to be involved in this drama, especially since Tamra had manipulated her into bringing it up in the first place.
When the drama returns to Orange County, Gretchen denies the accusations, and Slade, looking rather uncomfortable, says they plan to reveal who liked the damaging post. Meanwhile, Tamra tells Eddie that she believes Gretchen is a bad person and is happy others are finally seeing her true colors. Surprisingly, both Tamra and Slade are right, and both are being honest for once this season.
There’s also another confusing part I still can’t quite follow, even after watching it multiple times. After filming finished, someone claiming to be in the know contacted the women and accused Tamra of sharing confidential information about the show. This person provided specific details – dates, events not reported anywhere else, and storyline specifics – suggesting Tamra was the source of leaks to blogs and fan pages. The season concludes with everyone believing Tamra deliberately leaked information and even fabricated evidence to make Gretchen look bad and turn others against her. This person claims Tamra planned it all with a friend. While I’m not entirely sure if it’s true, it seems plausible, and the way the season ends suggests the producers also suspect Tamra was responsible.
So, did she actually do it? Let’s say she did. The only believable explanation is that she fabricated something to discredit Gretchen. If Tamra created fake engagement – like inventing likes, altering screenshots, or even using AI tools like ChatGPT – that would be a serious offense. She should be fired for such behavior. We understand reality TV involves production and exaggeration, but this goes too far – it’s essentially fraud, and she deserves to lose her job.
It’s common for details about filming schedules, locations, and even arguments to become public. During my research, someone at a tabloid told me they had a source working on the production team who regularly provided them with inside information. Even if this source didn’t directly leak anything significant, the fact that they had access to information at all lends some credibility to their claim that Tamra altered a screenshot.
Is this just another attempt by the women to turn on each other? Just as Tamra might have been the source of the leak and altered the images, could Gretchen and Slade have orchestrated a plan to blame Tamra? Gretchen was present at the events and had access to the same information, so she could have leaked it to make it seem like Tamra fabricated everything, clearing her own name and damaging her rival. It’s hard to know who to trust or what’s actually true anymore.
It feels like we’re living in an age of increasing dishonesty. Politicians seem to lie more openly, breaking promises they previously made. Government statistics are questionable, often influenced by political agendas. While the internet has always had its share of misinformation, artificial intelligence is now making it nearly impossible to know what’s real – we’re seeing fabricated realities, like impossible celebrity appearances. Even simple entertainment, like reality TV with its petty arguments and manufactured drama, feels compromised. At least with things like fraud, there’s usually a clear case and evidence to uncover the truth. But now, even finding basic facts feels difficult.
We often tune into reality shows for a sense of predictability – the comforting assurance that certain things will always happen. But that familiar comfort has vanished. This season felt different, filled with uncertainty and drama that felt overwhelming, like a thick smog. We desperately wanted things to return to normal, but the very nature of the show seemed to amplify the problems, creating a suffocating atmosphere. It turned us all into amateur investigators, trying to make sense of things, but we weren’t equipped to solve the mysteries. We were left feeling confused and disheartened, wondering where things went wrong, and surprised to see any hope remaining. Even though the truth was obscured, we sensed that something positive still existed, a resilience that continued despite the surrounding negativity, seemingly unaffected by the deception that was consuming us.
