The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Recap: Mask for Mask

This week’s episode of Rich Women Doing Things focused on… shopping! The women spent the hour browsing high-end stores like Dolce & Gabbana, where a charming sales associate named Stefano helped them find what they needed. The show cleverly blurred out one woman’s size when she told Stefano, respecting her privacy. They also visited Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Antonio Marras – the closest thing to a local designer featured on the show.

What really frustrates me about all this shopping is the lack of originality. These are major luxury brands with stores everywhere – you can find the same items in Beverly Hills. While there might be a few exclusive pieces or slightly lower prices due to taxes and tariffs, it feels like a missed opportunity. Why aren’t they exploring unique boutiques, supporting local artists, or discovering up-and-coming designers who could really benefit from their purchases? Instead, it just seems like they’re reinforcing the wealth of a few established families and everyone ends up looking identical in designer labels.

Let’s talk about shopping and, specifically, Dorit’s spending habits. While we don’t have totals for everyone, Dorit spent more than anyone else, despite likely having the least amount of money. Erika is also struggling financially, but Dorit’s house is facing possible foreclosure again. The number of lenders involved in financing it confirms what fans have been saying for years – her finances are unstable and fragile. Even Kevin Spacey reportedly doesn’t want his show associated with Dorit’s financial situation.

While riding with Rachel, the conversation turns to Kyle and her spending habits. Rachel accuses Kyle of being a compulsive shopper herself, pointing out Kyle’s frequent Zara purchases and questioning the source of her wealth, especially given her husband’s unclear job and ongoing financial issues with their house. Rachel also highlights that Kyle doesn’t even know the details of her divorce settlement or her own bills, as her husband managed their finances. Though Kyle seems capable of handling immediate debts, like credit card bills, her friends – and even the speaker – are concerned about Dorit’s financial situation. Dorit’s spending is so extravagant, it’s making the speaker reconsider their own habits and start saving money.

The episode mainly highlights Amanda’s dishonesty, but Dorit isn’t exactly truthful either. She’s always presented a picture of wealth, despite known financial issues with debts, taxes, and reportedly, unpaid stylists. She claimed things were great with her husband, PK, during the reunion, only to file for divorce weeks later and admit they’d been struggling for years. When she briefly admitted to smoking – after being caught in the car – fans were shocked, as it felt like a rare moment of honesty. That’s why it’s frustrating to see Dorit criticize Amanda for being fake, considering her own history of presenting a false image.

The drama is circling back to Amanda Frances, all because of something she overheard while shopping. Everyone’s been talking about the masks sold to tourists in Florence, and when someone asked who should get a Pinocchio mask, Boz jokingly said, “Amanda.” Unfortunately, Amanda was standing nearby and overheard. Then, Mandy Frank told Kyle that Boz had pointed at a mask and said it looked like Amanda, meaning he thought she wasn’t being truthful. The whole issue started with Amanda misinterpreting what Boz said – he wasn’t calling her fake, but implying she was a liar. It’s similar to a famous line from Katie Rost on RHOP, where she clarified whether she called someone dumb or stupid. Amanda then asked Natalie if she’d also heard Boz’s comment, and Natalie confirmed that she did. Kyle is upset about the situation, feeling that everyone is being unnecessarily mean by repeatedly making jokes at Amanda’s expense.

Amanda is the main topic of conversation at a strange dinner party – which is also supposed to be a pool party, despite there being no pool! Everyone’s commenting on the fashion, with Amanda’s swimsuit looking particularly good, and Erika Jayne’s outfit turning heads. The conversation turns to Amanda’s behavior, as she explains she doesn’t share her feelings because she doesn’t feel emotionally secure around the group. While I understand her feeling ganged up on, Rachel makes a good point: Amanda seems to switch between presenting herself as incredibly strong and as a helpless victim, and you can’t really be both at the same time. Amanda wants everyone to believe everything is fine, and shuts down whenever anyone challenges that, which isn’t a sustainable way to live – especially on a reality show.

During dinner, the cast attempts to show Amanda the ropes of being a “Housewife,” but she continues to struggle. Amanda confronts Boz about a comment regarding a mask, but Boz denies making it, even though viewers clearly saw her say something similar. Kyle tries to intervene on Amanda’s behalf, but Boz insists Amanda speak for herself. Amanda finally explains what she heard and how it made her feel, standing up for herself in the process. Boz then criticizes Amanda for discussing it with others instead of addressing it directly at the time. Amanda points out the hypocrisy of Boz’s advice in a private interview, noting that Boz previously told her she couldn’t control others’ actions, yet is now dictating how Amanda should react. Amanda feels Boz is being inconsistent.

I’m really confused right now. Could I be… supporting Amanda? I think I might be, which is strange because everyone else seems to be against her, and honestly, they probably have good reason. Boz is right that Amanda doesn’t seem genuine and is more concerned with her image. However, I don’t think this reveals as much as Boz believes. I especially disagree with his claim that she started her own cult after leaving one. While her methods are similar to those used by cults, she isn’t controlling people’s finances or isolating them from their families. But her focus on manifestation and that odd way she has everyone talk about money definitely feels like something she learned from a cult.

Boz is often incorrect, but Dorit’s assessment is even further off base. Kyle strongly defends Amanda, particularly against Natalie, and pushes her to reveal what she overheard. Amanda confirms Boz mentioned her name, which the footage supports. The issue is Amanda previously told a different story, leading Kyle to accuse her of lying and insist the cameras will prove the truth. (I’m only interested in seeing Boz apologize for this at the reunion.) While many dislike Kyle, she seems to be defending Amanda because Amanda is unable to defend herself and doesn’t have anyone else on her side. Dorit’s explanation of the situation, however, is completely illogical. Dorit claims Kyle is protecting Amanda to manipulate her into becoming an ally and speaking negatively about Dorit – something Kyle herself is unwilling to do. Amanda barely expresses an opinion on anything, so it’s hard to see how Kyle could possibly use her in that way. Ultimately, Dorit’s arguments don’t make sense.

Dorit abruptly walked away from the conversation, which really frustrated everyone. I’m already looking forward to seeing the fallout next episode and people finally confronting her. After that, the women each retreated to their own spaces. Amanda thanked Kyle for supporting her, while Boz went to Dorit’s room to gossip about Amanda with Rachel. Jen Tilly found some peace in the chapel hidden behind her closet. She was on the balcony, admiring the beautiful artwork and thinking about life after death – imagining clouds, heaven, and religious imagery. She wished God would take her away from all the drama, especially being stuck supporting Amanda, which she felt was a truly awful situation.
