In the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again,” Jon Bernthal reprises his role as The Punisher. However, there’s more to share: he’s also slated to star in an independent show on Disney Plus. Yet, fans might find themselves slightly disheartened as this new series may mean less shared screen time with Daredevil.
Four actors have portrayed The Punisher in live-action: Dolph Lundgren in a poorly received movie from 1989, Thomas Jane in an underappreciated film in 2004 and the exceptional Dirty Laundry short film in 2012, Ray Stevenson in the brutally violent War Zone in 2008, and most recently, Jon Bernthal has taken on the role.
In the second season of Daredevil, the final character made their appearance as Frank Castle, also known as the Man Without Fear. This character clashed with others in Hell’s Kitchen, ruthlessly targeting criminals in a quest to avenge his loved ones. He was an outstanding addition to the series that season, ultimately leading to his own two-season Netflix spinoff.
Approximately five years after their separation, Matt Murdock and Castle will reconnect in the series “Daredevil: Born Again,” while Marvel Entertainment has some notable plans for “The Punisher.
The Punisher is getting a Disney Plus Special Presentation
Instead of a full-fledged series, Marvel is creating a standalone presentation focusing on The Punisher for Disney Plus.
Marvel’s TV head, Brad Winderbaum, mentioned in a conversation: “Bernthal is currently developing a unique showcase with us, focusing on that character.
Two unique presentations, specifically “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and “Werewolf By Night,” have been released. Notably, “Werewolf By Night” stands out as one of the finest productions the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever offered.
Given the TV-MA rating for “Born Again” and the studio’s increased interest in mature content, fans can rest assured: it’s expected to be as gritty and violent as a Punisher tale should be. The specific plot details are yet to be revealed; it could serve as a bridge between “The Punisher Season 2” and “Born Again,” or it might unfold after the initial season of the upcoming series.
Without a doubt, Bernthal has made his mark and secured his role. As he expressed to LADbible, “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity, but let me clarify again, it’s not just about returning.
