The Penguin finale becomes one of the highest rated TV episodes of all time

As a longtime fan of both Gotham City and quality television, I can confidently say that The Penguin finale has left me utterly spellbound. Having weathered through some lackluster superhero spinoffs in the past, I must admit I was initially hesitant about The Penguin. But boy, was I proven wrong!

The final episode of Penguin has received widespread acclaim, often being ranked among the greatest TV episodes ever produced. On IMDb, it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with iconic series.

While The Batman could arguably rank among the top superhero films, it’s understandable that fans might have been cautious about The Penguin, given the mixed reception to spin-offs like Secret Invasion following the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history.

Remarkably, it might surpass the initial movie. Watching Oz Cobb’s tale unfurl has been both heartrending and captivating, and the culmination of his rise to dominance was seen in Sunday’s Episode 8.

A great deal transpired – Oz took Vic’s life, his mother suffered a stroke, and Sofia found herself once more in Arkham. The climax was astonishingly intense, and it has garnered such acclaim that it rivals some of the most esteemed episodes ever aired on television.

The Penguin finale becomes one of the highest rated TV episodes of all time

Episode 8 of The Penguin is currently rated 9.7 on IMDb, placing it as the 177th highest-rated TV episode ever. On paper, this isn’t an impressive ranking to boast about, but it’s certainly among some remarkable episodes.

In this collection, several episodes with identical ratings can be found: ‘Forks’ in The Bear Season 2, the finale of Severance’s first season, ‘Pine Barrens’ from The Sopranos, ‘The One Where Everybody Finds Out’ from Friends, and ‘Blackwater’ from Game of Thrones.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that throughout its eight-episode journey, The Penguin consistently garnered impressive IMDb ratings. The lowest rating it received was an impressive 8.5 for Episode 2. However, three episodes – Episodes 3, 4, and 7 – truly stood out, earning a perfect 9.0 or higher!

Unfortunately, there won’t be a second season of The Penguin just yet, but mark your calendars for 2026 – that’s when The Batman 2 is scheduled to release instead.
