Currently, enthusiasts of fantasy are relishing their time, as last week brought not one but two eagerly awaited games from that genre to the market. After a couple of sneak peeks, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster secretly appeared on PC and console platforms, followed swiftly by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s official launch on the same platforms two days later. It seems these games can peacefully coexist in the realm of swords and magic, as they both thrived during their debut weekends, particularly on PC systems.
Although we’re unaware of the specific performance figures for Oblivion and Expedition 33 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, given that both games are accessible through Game Pass, the initial feedback seems favorable for both titles. In fact, within a day of its release, Expedition 33 reportedly sold half a million units, a figure that jumped to one million after only three days. Sandfall Interactive clarified in a later post that this total includes sales to retailers and does not account for players who opted to play through Game Pass.
Here we are, three days since the launch, with a stunning one million copies already sold. Thank you for your faith in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

We’ve reached the third day post-launch and have achieved an astounding milestone of one million copies sold. Thanks for your trust in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33!

On Steam, the game simultaneously boasted a remarkable high of 121,422 players. Adding in gamers from other digital platforms such as the Epic Games Store, Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, it’s reasonable to assume that the total player count during the game’s debut weekend was quite substantial.
Oblivion Remastered surpassed 4 million players within days of its launch, and Bethesda expressed their gratitude in a tweet: “We’re thankful to the over 4 million of you who have already explored Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered.” The game saw a high point of 216,784 concurrent players on Steam on April 27. Since it was released across multiple platforms and Xbox Game Pass, it’s likely that the total number of players is even greater, similar to Expedition 33.
A big thank you goes out to the more than 4 million of you who’ve embarked on adventures in Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. We truly appreciate your support!

Although they belong to the fantasy genre, these two games provide vastly distinct gaming experiences. Oblivion Remastered revives the iconic Elder Scrolls feel on modern platforms in a revamped edition, but amusingly, some of its original bugs still persist. On the other hand, Expedition 33 is gearing up to be a strong candidate for Game of the Year with its captivating art style and a fresh take on turn-based RPGs by infusing action elements into it.
Bethesda Game Studios recently extended congratulations to Sandfall Interactive on the debut of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Ben Starr, who lends his voice to Verso in the game, shared with TopMob his optimism about the benefits of both games coming out so near to each other.
