So, Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 officially came out on October 29th for everyone on consoles and PC, but I splurged on the Premium Edition for a hundred bucks, so I’ve been playing for a bit already! And get this – the game actually sent me a message in the game, kinda making fun of me for being a big spender. Apparently, the game thinks I have a ‘flaw’ because of it, which is pretty hilarious and meta, honestly.
A Reddit user named disenchantor shared a funny message they received in the game after purchasing the Premium Edition, as reported by GamesRadar. The game playfully pointed out their “consumerism flaw” for spending so much money.
According to a message circulating online, the ‘Earth Directorate’ claims people are too focused on buying things. It suggests that marketing and sales tactics have conditioned us to constantly want the newest products instead of focusing on managing our money wisely.

In The Outer Worlds, flaws are special traits that can either benefit you – like boosting your attack power – or hinder you, such as slowing down how quickly your energy recharges. The ‘Consumerism’ flaw is unique because it has a lasting, mixed effect: it lowers prices when you buy things by 15%, but also reduces the amount of money you get when you sell items by 10%.
Redditors have also found a separate issue: if you rush through the game by skipping dialogue and cutscenes, you might get a quirk called “Foot-In-Mouth Syndrome.” As one player discovered, this quirk gives you a 15% experience boost, but it forces the game to pick all your conversation choices for you.
Okay, so I was checking out Hefty-Paramedic1934’s screenshot, and apparently the game noticed I’ve been speed-running through all the dialogue! It’s saying I don’t like talking to people, which… fair enough? Now, after a few seconds of me starting a conversation, the game just picks my choices randomly for me. Sounds kinda wild, but hey, at least I get a bonus to all my experience! Not a bad trade-off, honestly.
A Redditor named chunky_jalapeno recently discovered another issue in the game, as reported by Kotaku. This flaw, called “Easily Distracted,” seems to happen when you distribute your skill points. It gives you an extra skill point each time you level up, but makes you use it on skills you haven’t already upgraded.
The in-game message in chunky_jalapeno’s screenshot points out that your abilities are a bit inconsistent, but being good at many things can be more useful than being an expert at just one. You’ll be able to improve a wider range of skills quickly, although it will be more challenging to become truly exceptional in any single area.
Obsidian Entertainment has thought of everything when it comes to how you might play their space RPG – and even try to avoid certain parts. Your choices will have consequences, so proceed with caution.
The Outer Worlds 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting October 29th. In our review, we scored it an 8 out of 10, with reviewer Steve Watts praising its improved combat and role-playing features, saying it “feels like the series coming into its own.”
