Among the fantastic new additions to the Nintendo Switch 2 is a feature called GameChat, which allows you to engage in group chats with your online friends via voice and video conversations. Although this feature is common on other gaming consoles, it’s thrilling to see Nintendo introducing their take on it at last. The Switch 2 comes equipped with microphones for voice chat, but if you prefer video chat, you might want to consider pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, priced at $55. Nintendo has also confirmed that some third-party webcams will be compatible, including an officially licensed Piranha Plant version of the Switch 2 Camera from Hori. Preorders for the Switch 2 Camera are currently available along with the console, launch games, and a variety of other accessories.
The camera for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has versatile usage options – it works during TV broadcasts, when the console is standing on a table, or while being held handheld. It also allows you to adjust its angle so that you’re always included in the shot, and its wide-angle lens captures large groups comfortably within the image frame.
To utilize GameChat, you’ll require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription; though, there’ll be a short trial period where anyone can experiment with the feature without charge. As previously stated, certain third-party USB-C cameras might work with the Switch 2 as well. Nintendo will provide a “Test USB Camera” option within the system settings to verify if your device is compatible.
The Switch 2 Camera seems well-suited for many multiplayer Switch 2 games, including its flagship launch game, Mario Kart World. This camera allows you to video call your friends while competing in the online multiplayer mode. On July 24, Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV Switch 2 Edition will debut, featuring unique modes that integrate your face into the game and mini-games designed specifically for the Switch 2 Camera.
