‘The Office’ Star Jenna Fischer Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Says Angela Kinsey ‘Protected Me’ in the Workplace: ‘I Am Now Cancer Free’

As a long-time fan of Jenna Fischer and her remarkable portrayal of Pam Beesly in The Office, I find myself deeply moved by her recent Instagram post about her battle with triple positive breast cancer. Her courage, resilience, and unwavering positivity are truly inspiring.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’d like to share some heartfelt news: Last December, I – Jenna Fischer – received the challenging diagnosis of triple positive breast cancer. However, I’m thrilled to report that I’ve successfully navigated the journey and am now living cancer-free! This incredible milestone has been reached after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments.

Triple-positive breast cancer is a formidable type of breast cancer that’s also highly receptive to treatment. In January, I underwent a lumpectomy to extract the tumor. Thankfully, my cancer was detected early and it hadn’t invaded my lymph nodes or spread elsewhere in my body. However, due to triple-positive breast cancer’s aggressive characteristics, additional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation were necessary to ensure it didn’t recur. In February, I started a 12-round regimen of weekly chemotherapy, and in June, I began three weeks of radiation therapy. Currently, I’m undergoing regular infusions of Herceptin and daily doses of Tamoxifen, but I’m pleased to report that I’m feeling terrific.

Fischer expressed her excitement about sharing her cancer experience openly, doing so “in hopes that you will remember to schedule your yearly mammogram appointments.

“I’m serious, call your doctor right now,” she added. “My tumor was so small it could not be felt on a physical exam. If I had waited six months longer, things could have been much worse. It could have spread…Consider this your kick in the butt to get it done. I’m also sharing in hopes that it will be a source of support to any woman who is going through this right now. As anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis knows, your life changes immediately. It becomes all about doctor appointments, test results, treatments and recovering from treatments. Suddenly everything in your life is geared around one thing: fighting cancer.”

As a movie critic, I’d rephrase it like this: After battling cancer, I found immense support from my fellow villagers, particularly my “The Office” co-star, Angela Kinsey. We team up on the “Office Ladies” podcast, where she was more than just a colleague – she shielded me and spoke up for me during our recording sessions.

For quite some time, she was the only colleague in my workspace aware of the situation,” Fischer penned. “During my hair loss period, she donned hats at our professional gatherings to avoid standing out. When I required a moment’s rest, we took them together. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have a job that allows such flexibility. Cancer therapy necessitates adaptability. For someone who enjoys organizing things in advance, this was a tough shift. However, maintaining my work during treatment has brought immense pleasure to my life.

For nine seasons, from 2005 to 2013, Angela Kinsey portrayed Pam Beesly on the NBC show “The Office.” Her performance in this series earned her an Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy series. Beyond “The Office,” Kinsey has appeared in movies like “Blades of Glory” (2007), “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” (2007), and “Hall Pass” (2011), among others.
