There’s a new development regarding Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming film, The Odyssey, which might surprise viewers. While Nolan hinted at the movie being a grand spectacle at CinemaCon 2026, producer Emma Thomas has discussed its potential length, suggesting it may not be as long as some of his previous films.
Producer Emma Thomas addresses the runtime of The Odyssey
According to Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, is expected to be under three hours long (as reported by Deadline). While the final runtime isn’t confirmed yet – the movie is still being edited – this was announced during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where Nolan also showed a longer preview of his adaptation of Homer’s classic story.
Many were surprised by the relatively short runtime of Nolan’s new film. He’s known for making long movies – Oppenheimer was his longest yet – so a movie under three hours, especially one as ambitious as The Odyssey starring Matt Damon, was unexpected for audiences.
Christopher Nolan recently revealed new clips from his upcoming film, hinting at its epic scope and dramatic energy, much like Homer’s The Odyssey. The footage showcased iconic moments such as the Trojan Horse, perilous sea voyages, and mythical beings like the Cyclops (according to The Hollywood Reporter). The preview also highlighted the film’s focus on the emotional heart of Odysseus’s story, particularly his deep desire to reunite with his family.
Nolan also said filming the movie was incredibly challenging, but in a good way. The production took the cast and crew to locations all over the world, including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Iceland, and Scotland. He particularly praised Matt Damon, calling him a true collaborator and highlighting Damon’s dedication to enduring tough conditions – from being on boats and climbing mountains, to filming in caves, under intense sun, and in harsh weather like sideways rain and strong winds (according to Variety).
I’m so excited about ‘The Odyssey’! The cast is incredible – Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron are all starring! It’s coming out on July 17th, and I’ve already marked my calendar!
