The new Gacha system in Tribe Nine has led to mostly negative reviews on Steam, with players feeling cheated

In a free-to-play game called Tribe Nine, which was released officially on February 20, 2025, some players had early access through beta testing. Based on the feedback from these early players, the gacha system has undergone significant changes, making it extremely challenging for players to fully enjoy the game without investing money.

Gacha trouble in Tribe Nine

As a devoted enthusiast, I’ve noticed that the gacha system in most free-to-play RPGs adheres to a familiar pattern. The primary objective often revolves around acquiring unique characters by spending in-game currency to draw them. These games provide multiple methods for players like me to gather this currency without spending real money, typically through daily logins, finishing quests, or engaging in various game activities.

In the game Tribe Nine, it appears that acquiring new characters requires spending real money, according to player feedback.

One of the most blatant examples of bait-and-switch I’ve encountered: The vast majority of free-to-play rewards that were initially promised in the game during its beta stage have vanished. Over 90% of the free-to-play currency has been eliminated. Daily tasks, treasure chests, and achievements now yield less than 5% of what they used to, and one-time quests follow the same pattern…

…Regardless of your willingness to invest at a meager 0.3% gacha rate, the exchange for gems is incredibly exploitative.

Currently, there’s scarcely any free currency available, and given that the gacha only yields three-star characters at a painfully low rate of 0.3%, it’s highly unlikely that free players will be able to acquire any new characters in the future.

What I miss most is the excitement of discovering hidden treasure chests, which used to contain banner currency. The thrill of uncovering secrets and solving complex puzzles was a big part of the experience for me. Now that there’s no more banner currency in chests, it feels like much of the enjoyment from exploring has been taken away.

Predictably, the game faced a barrage of unfavorable criticisms immediately following its release. Currently, many players are advising against spending time gathering characters and instead suggesting focusing on the main storyline for enjoyment. Here’s hoping that Akatsuki Games gives due consideration to this feedback and takes steps to revamp the gacha system.
