The Monster Hunter Wilds update added a big, beautiful bird who gives you free stuff, and players are already worshipping it as a benevolent god

People may be willing to confront a tyrannosaur merely to make a hat from its skin, yet everyone appreciates free items. So, it’s not surprising at all that in just a few hours, the new feathered friend added to Monster Hunter Wilds has already been transformed into an object of adoration by the players.

In a major overhaul, Wilds introduces the Grand Hub – a spacious communal area designed to be the primary socializing spot and preparation station for hunters who have advanced to High Rank. This new headquarters is more inviting compared to the base camps we initially had at launch, offering all necessary amenities, additional relaxation zones, and even a barrel bomb bowling mini-game, providing the classic, enjoyable experience of tossing high-explosive projectiles for leisure.

In the new setting, Capcom subtly added an undisclosed extra feature that players discovered as they ventured around. Perched high above the Grand Hub, nestled among the cliffs, was an impressive bird – an astonishing creature, a sight to behold with its majestic presence and rotund shape.

A large, fluffy creature akin to a crane, typically seen perched on Rafma in the Iceshard Cliffs or roaming around Suja, is not just visually pleasing but also functional. Much like the nests of cohoots in Monster Hunter: Rise, this giant crane and its offspring gather items for you while you’re away hunting. So far, I’ve managed to retrieve crafting materials, resources for trading with villagers, and tradeable items such as Steel Eggs, which can be sold for cash.

It comes as no surprise that Wilds players are already smitten with the Gigacrake and its generosity. On the Monster Hunter subreddit, hunters have been overjoyed by the find. “It is the crake of all cakes,” said redditor Caaros, who praised it as “a generous deity, who had no need for that stuff in the first place” before claiming it as the standout feature of the title update.

Among the early witnesses, Clonedestroyer9 shared their experience with the divine being, revealing it was equally adept at causing terror. “I circled him, even collided with him briefly, and when he rose, I felt an overwhelming fear,” Clonedestroyer9 recounted. “Fortunately, this deity is benevolent and granted me forgiveness before returning to rest.

“As benevolent as he is fluffy,” another redditor replied. “What a guy.”

To locate the gigacrake, veer right upon entering the Grand Hub. You’ll spot vine-covered cliffs that let you ascend onto a part of colossal, fossilized monster bone.

Starting from a ledge supported by bone, leap across to a seemingly unreachable overhang. Traverse this ledge and make a series of jumps to bridge gaps on the cliffside. Continue until you reach a point where you can descend to a path hidden behind a waterfall. There, you’ll discover the nest, which holds its riches for you to enjoy.

Or you can just hang out with a giant bird. That’s good, too.
