Here Comes the Monkey, Officially Arriving as One of the Top-Notch Stephen King Adaptations in Recent Times – Plus a Few Memorable Cameos (Proceed with caution, as spoilers lie ahead!).
Mostly, The Monkey focuses on an odd, musical instrument-like creature with a knack for eliminating others in unique, lethal manners – think someone being dismembered by swarms of bees! (Believe it or not, this happens in the story.)
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, this upcoming adaptation isn’t the sole Stephen King project out there – The Long Walk and The Running Man are also getting fresh takes. But what sets this one apart? It’s shaping up to be the goriest we’ve witnessed in quite some time.
Fortunately, there are a few delightful appearances that might momentarily divert your attention from the abundance of gore and gruesomeness. Surprisingly, none of these cameos feature King himself.
Adam Scott and Osgood Perkins both appear in The Monkey
In an unanticipated twist, both Adam Scott and the director, Osgood Perkins, make appearances in the film titled “The Monkey.” Since Adam Scott’s presence wasn’t shown in the trailers for the movie, it’s likely that his role could be a total shock to many viewers, given his starring role in Severance.
In the film’s opening scene, there’s a character named Captain Petey Shelborn, who is revealed to be Hal and Bill’s father. This character appears in a flashback. Initially, he’s seen attempting to return a blood-soaked monkey toy at a store. Regrettably, the situation deteriorates for him, becoming even more grotesque as he deals with the store owner.
In addition to his role, Perkins is featured in a chilling film where he portrays Uncle Chip for both Hal and Bill. Subsequently, due to the monkey causing harm to someone they care about deeply, the boys are forced to move in with their aunt and uncle.
As a devoted fan, I must admit that despite Uncle Chip having a limited screen time due to his unfortunate fate, he still leaves a lasting impression. His eccentric hairstyle and flamboyant style are unforgettable, and the manner of his untimely departure only adds to the intrigue.
Interestingly enough, Stephen King seems to be missing from these adaptations. However, over the years, he has often surprised us by making brief appearances in cameos for his novels.

In various movies such as Knightriders, Creepshow, Maximum Overdrive, Pet Sematary, and others, he made appearances. His latest role was that of an antique store proprietor in It: Chapter 2, which was released in the year 2019.
Of course, given the additional adaptations upcoming, it’s not impossible that we might see more of this author in front of the camera soon.
The Monkey is playing in theaters now.
